I find myself waving goodbye. I manage to steal one last kiss and hug before he gets into the car for a 200 mile drive back home. As I start to go back inside the house... I notice something in the corner of my eye. A dog, no bigger than a pit bull with red fur and tattered skin... I didn't really think anything of it since our neighborhood is practically littered with them.
But one thing was different about this one,... his eyes, cold and lifeless. Bloodshot, pupils smaller than I ever seen... I headed back inside but take one last glimpse at the mutt... "it's probably nothing" I tell mySelf, then head inside.
Once I got inside the house I slowly walked to my room to gather some clean cloths, then walked to the bathroom to turn on the shower. I closed the door and jumped right in, feeling the nice heat of the water. But once I got out and put my clean cloths on, I kept hearing this thud on the roof and windows. I could see the sun gleaming through the blinds. so it couldn't be storming, so I let the curiosity take over me. I walked over to the windows practically falling on my ass from slipping on the wet floor. When I reached the windows and pulled open the blinds, I saw a crowed of birds not just any birds, birds with shinny black wings with big body's and short black beaks. I couldn't make out what birds they are... and then it clicked .... Ravens.. there ravens that's it. They were flying everywhere, bumping into the house and some hitting the floor and not getting back up. I flipped out, I didn't know what was going on. First the weird dog in my back yard now birds going crazy. It's practically raining outside, but besides cats and dogs it's birds.
I ran to my moms room and realized I forgot that her and my nana went to the store, and my grandfather is out. So hear I stand... paralyzed, home alone, and don't know what's going on. Finally a couple hours later it was getting dark and quiet. Also the birds had finally gone away except the ones that never got back up from there fall. all of a sudden I herd the sound of closing car doors outside and knew it was my mom and nana.
I quickly walked outside to go help them with groceries. As I help my nana with the groceries I tell her and my mom about the birds and dog.
"Oh that old hound has been out there for the past couple of weeks," she said.
"Even bit the neighbor across the street."
"My sister Susan even said that he had to be quarantined till they could figure out what was wrong with him. I sure do hope they find out what's wrong with the poor man soon."
"So why haven't they called animal control," I asked.
"They've never been able to catch him," nana said.
Not knowing how to respond we headed back inside to put up tuns of groceries and watch our favorite show. I sat beside my Nana eating a delicious bowl of chocolate chip mint ice-cream wile watching NCIS. After it was over I noticed it was getting very late so I headed to my room, closed my door, slipped on my pj's and instantly fell asleep as soon as my face hit the pillow.
