Sooooooo I don't really know how to start this, but I guess I'll just talk about the piece. I started by sketching out what I wanted, making changes here and there, then I painted over it (using my sister's watercolors 'cause I don't have any, she doesn't even paint ; - ;). After that, I cleaned it up with ink, making the details stand out.
I smudged the paint out using a brush and my fingers, making it look as though the colors were bleeding out. I also stitched the top of the paper because I thought it would add something to it. This actually just a concept piece.
The flowers depicted in the piece are called Lycoris Radiata, also known as Red Spider Lillies, Flowers of Death, Corps Flowers or Resurrection Lillies (they're my favorite). They originated in China and Korea, but we're later introduced into Japan. Since the flowers are mostly associated with death, it's believed that one should never give a bouquet of these flowers. Some plant them on graves to show tribute to the dead. The yellow bulbs of the flower (I painted mine red) are also poisonous.
If you have an art book let me know and I'll check it out!
