“Having types are not so wise in the game of love,” Josh added in with a slender smirk. Oh heavens, that smile…

“And you’d know!” Al accused and I jumped.

Josh nodded, “I might. Kenna rejected Garion at first…he wasn’t her type, you see. But then he made a complete fool of himself…the poor guy. Then again, it was worth it because she gave him a chance.”

Al rolled his eyes, “Not what I was expecting.”

“What were you expecting?” Kenna sniggered. I didn’t dare say a thing. If I turned this all on me, I’d gust.

CHAPTER 28 (part 2)

Al gave an evil smirk that I’m sure he perfected with years of practice and turned his asymmetric gaze on Kenna, “Well, I must have been wrong to assume…,” he now looked over to Josh, his acid smile growing even more. Except, for once, Josh didn’t looked disconcerted or edgy. But of course, it wasn’t like he had any reason to falter under the unyielding gaze of Al. Right?

“Assume what?” Josh leaned forward, almost looking enlightened with this sudden new challenge, “Assume that I have an unknown type that I’ve neglected to share with you? And if you are wondering, no, I do not have a type.”

Al starred at him for a second and groaned, “Well, if you put it that way…then I guess, the chance of you and Erin ever becoming more than friends is…well, she’s the type that likes guys who have types.”

Now, I have to admit that was lame enough to make me laugh, “Al! Really? That’s all you could come up with? And besides, if Sorie isn’t your type, what is your type?”

Al’s face blistered in color and he shook his head with a heavy sigh, “I don’t know…”

“So it could be Sorie!” I countered, “Or do you know your type well enough that you can deny it is not her? And besides, Josh just pointed out that Garion wasn’t her type but…they fell in love anyways! Sometimes even you don’t know what is best for you! So accept it, you like Sorie.”

“Or,” he prolonged each letter, “you love the idea of me liking Sorie so you can tease me…while I have actual grounds to tease you!”

“What grounds? And I have reasoning standing by my teasing! It’s not just my imagination! You go all…jelly-like and gaga whenever Sorie comes around!”

Al laughed, “Who doesn’t? The girl is gorgeous! What self-respecting person wouldn’t try to avoid being seen as a fool by someone like that? You do it! I, however, have actual proof to support my joshing.”

“Aha, word play! Al, you are clever!” Kenna giggled and broke into laughter. Perhaps I should have just shut my mouth while I was ahead.

“I fail to see what proof it is you have,” Josh broke back into this conversation with certain calmness.

Al only grinned some more and I was reminded of a kid who just stole a cookie from his grandmother’s jar and got away with it.

I missed Gram in that second too, because I shared those smiles with her too often.

But Al persisted, “Oh, you know what grounds I have proof on.”
