2 Years Later

"Now, you all must open your packet once the timer starts. For the first part of the exam, you will have an hour to complete the 60 questions. Once you are down with this part, you will get a five-minute break and then will come back for another section. Alright, get ready, and we will start in a moment." The proctor spoke, as she stood at the front of the room. Elliot was sitting in the back of the room, but since I had the last name starting with B, I was closer to the front. It was a scary time for all of us because right now this test would be the one determining if we ever get away from officer life and into the easyish going life of a detective.

I turned to look over my shoulder, and Elliot smiled at me before giving me a thumbs up. I sighed softly before closing my eyes and taking a slow breath. I can do this, and I'm not going to let Elliot pass, and me not to pass.

Elliot and I were in the testing room for about 4 hours. It was a big test, but we both thought we were doing good. Once the exam was over, we were sent back to our precincts to jump start paperwork regarding possible promotions.

My partner, Lelia Taylor walked over and sat on the edge of my desk and smiled at me.

"Hey, Liv."

"What?" I asked, and she sighed softly.

"Are you leaving me?" She asked, and I smiled.

"Most likely. Or at least I hope that I can."

"Really? Because I was thinking that we were getting close ever since Ian got promoted." She sighed. I laughed before putting the cap back onto my pen and sitting it down.

"I will be missing you, Lelia, but you will be the senior officer if I can get this promotion. It's a lot of fun to be the one that controls instead of being controlled."

"Benson, may I talk to you real quick?" Sergeant Hart spoke, as she walked from behind the counter you can always find her at, and towards me.

"Yes, ma'am," I replied, before standing and heading towards her. She walked behind the counter again and into her office that she rarely uses.

"So?" I questioned, and she sighed as she sat down.

"So, this is in regards to your situation."

"Um, what one?" I mused, and she sighed.

"How you came into this world." She replied, awkwardly. I looked down at my hands as I sat down on one of the hard chairs.

"Because of what happened..." I whispered.

"Do you think it'll hurt you as a detective?"

"No! Sergeant, I know how it feels to be the victim, and I want to help those who end up being victims!" I exclaimed.

"Are you sure?"

"Please. Please don't void my test because of what happened in the past." I begged.

"I'm not planning on that, but I'm recommending something."

"Okay, what are you recommending?" I questioned slowly.

"Therapy. Nothing too big. Just a few sessions in a month, just to make sure you don't bottle up everything."

"You saw that I put down SVU for my unit, huh?"

"I did." She replied. I slid forward and looked her dead in her eyes.

"Sergeant Hart, I promise you that I will not turn into one of those dirty cops. I want to be like my father. I want to be a good guy, one that is passionate about helping those who seem to have lost all hope. What happened to my mother... how her rapist wasn't charged until a few years ago... I want to prevent that. I wanted to make sure that those that I can help get justice, get it. So I'll go to therapy if that helps ease your mind, but I will be a sex detective, and I will be as passionate about my job as my father was."

[*]

I was exhausted when I drove home that night. Just thinking about my Dad and how what happened to Serena was the cause of mandatory therapy really wore me out.

"Hey, beautiful." Elliot smiled, as he met me before we walked into our apartment building.

"Hey, how was the rest of your day?" I yawned. Elliot grabbed my hand and sighed as we headed towards the stairs.

"It was okay. I finished the paperwork, but Sergeant Hart called me into her office and is having me go to therapy." I sighed.

"Therapy?" He questioned, and I nodded.

"Yeah, therapy. At least next year if we start to think about children, you will know that I'm sane."

"You have never been sane." Elliot laughed, before running his hand over my back.

"Yeah, but she wants me to go in and discuss what happened between Serena and Joseph and make sure that I won't eat my gun or shoot someone because they make me angry."

"Ah." He replied plainly. We climbed a few more flights of stairs before reaching our floor. I unlocked our door, before going in and turning on a few lights. Elliot and I went into our bedroom and changed before going out and starting to make dinner.

"Do you think my parents are proud of me?" I asked quietly. Elliot looked at me as tears welled in my eyes. I wanted a real answer.

"Why would you think otherwise?" He asked.

"I just don't know what they'd be thinking right now," I whispered.

"I think that they are sitting together in heaven, and your mother is scolding your father because he his cheering right now. He is cheering because his girls are doing amazing things. He's probably swearing and she's trying not to smile while scolding him, but she still is. He is watching you both and cheering as if it's a football or baseball game. They are both so freaking proud of you and Cy for following your dreams. For not giving up when they both died. You gave your father part of your liver for god's sakes!" Elliot exclaimed.

The tears that welled in my eyes streamed down my cheeks, and I moved towards my husband. He wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed me softly.

"See, they are proud. And so am I."
