Chapter 1
“Tyler! Get up now!” I heard my mom yell through my half asleep ears. Those four words could only mean one thing… The weekend was over and Monday had come. Monday, the day everyone hates. I love Mondays about as much as the devil loves Jesus, but no matter how much I hate Mondays they’re going to come one way or another. So I dragged my tired body up out of bed and threw on some khaki shorts, a teal V-neck, some black Nike calf socks and my new Vans, which my mom had bought me for my 16th birthday last week.
After I had gone to the bathroom and brushed my teeth (my morning breath is nasty), I walked down the stairs where I managed to trip and fall down the last four steps with my unusually clumsy feet, the struggle is real. I’m just lucky my sister didn’t see it or, as usual, I would never hear the end of it. She is three years older than me and is the worst sibling you will ever meet in your life time. But I’m not going to waste my words going into details about her. Anyway, my morning continued on as any normal morning would. A Poptart for breakfast, a fifteen minute drive by the nasty chemical laboratory in our city, and then finally to school. I actually kind of like school, I’m smart, so it came easy to me, I’m pretty popular so I didn’t really have to worry about the whole bullying thing like a lot of kids do. I was decent at sports, and I was on most of the teachers’ good sides. Surprisingly, I had my High School life made.
There was only one thing I couldn’t ever seem too get right. Yes guys, I’m talking about girlfriends. I hadn’t been able to manage a relationship that’s lasted longer than three months… Oh well, honestly I don’t mind it that much, between you and me the single life is much more fun *winky-face*. Well enough of letting my mind wonder, it was time for 1st period to start. I had Math, which was a “piece of cake” for me if you will, plus I sit next to this really hot girl Sarah. She is also my best chick-friend, we hang out quite a bit. I walked in the classroom about a minute before the bell rang. I sat down in my seat, then greeted Sarah as we do every morning, a hug, then a slap across the face. We were just weird like that, and she was the type of girl you could have a relationship like that with.
“Morning” Said Sarah with her normal mischievous smile. She said more than just “Morning”, but I won’t repeat it, I’d like to keep this book relatively clean. I had just enough time to say “morning” back to her before the bell rang. After it rings, we say The Pledge of Allegiance, and then Principle Gray gives morning announcements. Good morning Riverwood High students, his deep voice said over the intercom, we have a very important announcement this morning, so everyone needs to listen up. There has been an accident at the Chemical Lab downtown today, however no one was injured and all the chemicals have been cleaned up. No one needs to worry the situation has been taken care of. Thank you students and faculty, have a nice day. The second that intercom stopped the room exploded with talk of the “accident”. As for Sarah and I we couldn’t care less. The same thing happened a few years back and everything was back to normal the next morning. I had other things on my mind. “Hey Sarah, you doing anything tonight?” I asked “Well since your about too ask me out, no I’m free” said Sarah with a smile “You just think you’re so smart don’t you?” I said jokingly “And yes, I am going to ask you out. How about a movie?” “Yes. I’d love to go a movie with you” Said Sarah “Great, I’ll pick you up at 8:00 sharp” I replied.
“Quiet down hooligans!” yelled Ms. Redil as she stormed in the room. One thing you need to know, Ms. Redil was not a morning person, or an any other part of the day person. Hints the “Ms.” Part. “I know you brats have heard about the accident. I also know you have heard that it’s been cleaned up, so shut up and pay attention!” I’m pretty sure she kept talking but I wasn’t paying attention. I was dreaming about my date with Sarah. That was pretty much what the rest of my day consisted of as well. By the time the final bell rang I was past excited. I drove straight home to get ready for my date with Sarah. While texting/flirting with her the whole time might I add. About the time 7:45 rolled around I told my parents goodbye and ran outside and hopped inside the driver’s side of my black ’71 Trans Am. It was time.
