sweet reunion

"stop, i'm not here to harm you!" kara yelled out to the dark silhouette firing bullets at her, hiding in the shadows of the ominous alien ship the DEO had found. she was there alone; they figured whoever was on the ship would feel threatened if a whole flank of agents raided the place. the mysterious figure kept firing his weapon. kara stepped closer cautiously, aiming to get a better look at whoever this was. the man firing at her came closer as well; and kara could finally make out his face. her heart stopped; her stomach dropped. tears formed in her eyes as the man in front of her lowered his weapon slowly, allowing it to finally fall to the ground. kara could barely form words.
"m-mon-el," she said shakily; her voice quivering as silent tears rolled down her cheeks.
"kara?" mon-el was now sobbing. "kara," he managed to get out longingly. his eyes filled with something familiar as they locked on her; a warm look of love that she had missed for the past seven months.
kara stepped toward him, a look of shock resting on her face. mon-el was here; he was alive. he was back. mon-el swept kara into a sweet embrace and she slowly wrapped her arms around him; still barely able to move. the love of her life was with her again. mon-el wasn't dead like she thought. he was really here. she continued to cry silently into mon-el's shoulder, squeezing him to the best of her abilities so that he wouldn't be able to leave her ever again.
"kara, i missed you so much," mon-el said, sobbing into her hair. kara pulled back, trying to compose herself.
"mon-el, i-i don't understand, how are you here right now?"
"this may be a little hard to grasp, but here goes. i got trapped in a wormhole when i left earth in the pod. it sent me into earth's future; four years from now. l-corp developed a cure to my lead allergy, and i found my way back to you using this ship," he said.
"i- oh my god," kara started. "mon-el that's amazing! i'm so happy to see you, you have no idea. but, i don't understand, you didn't forget about me?"
"kara, how in rao's name could i ever forget about you?" kara wanted to be with him again so bad, and she stared at him with longing, wondering what this meant for them. but her question was soon answered when mon-el brought his lips to meet hers. their first kiss in seven months, or for mon-el four years, was full of longing, and pain, and words held back for so long, and most of all, love. kara couldn't believe he was really here; she never thought she would see the man she loved again. when they broke apart, mon-el stared at kara with a look she remembered from when they were together. it made her nearly fall to her knees, she had missed that look so much. mon-el grasped his hands around kara's face, just as he had done when they said goodbye. "i love you, kara. and i missed you so much." at this, kara have a heartfelt chuckle as gentle tears rolled down her face. mon-el wiped them away. they were finally back together. everything was ok.
back at the deo:
mon-el laid on a bed in the med bay, hooked up to wires that helped him recover from his rough journey home. kara sat by his side, her hand intertwined with his as she admired him, patiently waiting for him to wake up. mon-el's eyes fluttered open and he cracked a smile at the sight of kara by his bedside. "hi, beautiful," he said, clearly back to his normal self.
"hey," she said, crying a little bit.
"hey, it's okay, i'm here now."
"i know," kara responded. "i just never thought i'd see you again. it's a miracle, and i'm so happy." mon-el reached up to caress kara's face. she looked up into his eyes.
"i swear to you kara, i'll do whatever it takes to never leave you, ever again." he planted a gentle kiss to her forehead. "i love you, kara."
"i love you. now you really should get some rest," kara laughed a bit as she said this.
as mon-el drifted back to sleep, she couldn't help but feel like something had changed. that mon-el was different. he was more mature, that's for sure. but he was hiding something, and she intended to find out what. but for now, she just took in the fact that he was here, and they could be together again.
when mon-el awoke a few hours later, kara came immediately to his side. "hey, how are you feeling?"
"much better, you're here." kara chuckled at this and blushed slightly. "but i feel like i should tell you something." kara took a deep breath, mon-el was about to tell her whatever he'd been hiding. "during my time away, i got married, to a wonderful woman named imra ardeen." kara's eyes sunk as he said this. "we only did it to become stronger as a team, and i respected her, but i never truly was in love with her." kara looked back up at mon-el, feeling a spark of hope once again. "once i found out there was a way to get back to you, she and our friends helped me come back home. she understood that i needed to be with you, and that you're the woman i truly love." he smiled up at kara. suddenly, kara noticed the necklace that mon-el was wearing. she reached under his deo shirt and pulled it out. her breath caught and her heart stopped. "my mother's necklace. you kept it."
"of course i did. it was a constant reminder of what i was fighting for; getting back to you. it reminded me of all that you did for me, and it kept me going when i lost hope and thought i'd never see you again."
"keep it," kara started. "now it can remind me of how you risked your life to get back to me." kara leaned down and planted a soft kiss to mon-el's lips. "i love you. so much."
"me too. and i promise i'll never leave again, even if i have to die trying to stay with you."
