K woke up levitating on her room, staring at the tomboyish woman who was grinning wickedly and facing her. At once the girl knew it was a dream, and K just passed through the "black phase" of the sleeping pattern.
It happens again.
"I love you," the stranger said as she floated on the widening space of the room. It was K's boarding house, but smaller in real life. In her dream, the walls are detaching from each other, revealing the beautiful darkness of the outer space.
"I have always like this, you know what I mean," the girl confessed, grabbing a guitar midair. "I love the dark confines of the space, dotted with stars from afar, with the moon just within our grasp."
"I hate the night," K shot back. "It floods me with thoughts, making me try to commit things I didn't want to do, I can hear voices that I don't want to hear, and...and..."
"And the night reminds you of me," the strange girl added. K nodded in resignation. "I'm sorry if I hurt you all the time. But always remenber that I love you, K."
"I know. That's why I can't leave you," K confessed. "I love you. I have always did."
They swam on the now dark space, closer to one another. K embraced the slender built of the girl, and they kissed passionately in the middle of darkness. She smelled of cigarettes and stale alcohol, but it was an imperfect delight for both of them.
K felt the cold metal on her chest, and she saw the knife penetrating her sternum. The girl grabbed the hilt of the knife and pulled it out, then stabbing her again.
For every stab, the girl whispered "I love you to K's ears, and they continued kissing each other, caressing one's body and electric warmth flooding through their system. K stabbed the girl repeatedly as well with her own knife, turning it into a cycle of mutual hurting and loving.
Their lips parted, and blinding light pulled K away to the world of the Awakening. She was back on her bed, and the girl was sleeping beside her.
K smiled.
