Ayesha
Spotlights flash in her face. She finishes her song and the crowd goes wild. She woke up, drenched in sweat, screaming at the top of her lungs, “THANK YOU!” She was now fully awake. She glanced at her surroundings :bed, closet, her same old room. She had been dreaming of singing-again.
Alina
She was crying, a cacophony escaping her throat which, she herself, was horrified to hear. Why couldn’t she play when she desperately wanted to? Why couldn’t she pursue a career in football when she wanted to? She had applied to the state level team, and skewed to the domestic when it bore no fruit. Both efforts had, however, proved to be completely fruitless. She had been so infuriated, cursing her fate and her birth as a female. Her phone was at her feet, dispersed in a million pieces. She heard pounds at the door.
“Alina! Hey, honey! Open the door!”, her mother called out.
Between sobs, she screamed “GO AWAY!”
From the very beginning, she had been her father’s beta . She had never been interested in the monotonous things girls were usually interested in. What she had always desired was to be a quintessence in the sport, and she was actually splendid at it. Resultantly, she had been a source of despising of boys, who could never accept her into their teams. But, her skills made them ignore this fact and she played with the boys of her colony, mostly outrunning them. She was actually a UK based Pakistani. They had migrated when she was still a baby, but they still respected their culture.
Oh God, she thought, for one single day, let me be a boy and I’ll play my heart out.
