her very first mission.

as expected, she was excited...but also so nervous that she almost ralphed in thor's hair (he vowed never to sit in front of her on the quinjet again).

it was going pretty well to be honest. she took down more chitaurian whatevers than she could count and even landed a few hits on thor's angsty brother.

she used everything cap taught her perfectly.

"hulk, cap, gimme a boost!" she put her helmet back on, leaping towards him.

he roared and grabbed her ankle, throwing her towards steve who was down the block. she flipped upright in the air and pushed off of his shield with all her might. she drew her fist back and used gravity as well her strength to tear through the alien's whole body. the road under her cracked when she landed as pieces fell around her.

"okay, show off," clint scoffed through the comms.

she laughed. "you're just jealous."

"i can close it! can anybody copy? i can shut the portal down."

cap responded first, "okay, nat. do it!"

"no, wait."

"stark, these things are still coming."

she dragged her claws through another, panting. "he's right, tony. we can't take this much longer."

"i've got a nuke coming in and it's gonna blow in less than a minute...and i know just where to put it."

silence fell across their comms.

her breath came out in shaky bursts. the anxiety was killing her. she watched nervously as the closest thing she has to a father disappeared into the sky with a freaking missile in his hands.

the chitaurians began to advance on her, thor, and steve. they were back to back, holding hands with guns pointed at them.

and then the aliens just fell to the ground.

they all turned their heads up to the sky, waiting for him.

"come on, tony," she whispered.

and nothing.

steve sighed. "close it."

the warbling sounds of natasha doing just that echoed through her was and she turned, her vision red. she lunged at cap, but thor lifted her over his shoulder before she could do anything.

"he's coming!" she kicked against the god's grasp, even scratching his face with her suit's claws. "how can you give up on him like that? let me go!"

just as the portal began to close, he fell through.

"look, lady serena!"

she ripped off her helmet and grinned, tears pooling in her eyes.

"son of a gun."

"wait...he's not slowing down," thor began to swing his hammer.

but she couldn't move. she was frozen in one spot, terrified as she watched him plummet. steve turned her face into his chest so that she wouldn't see but she pulled away when she heard a roar.

hulk slid down a building with tony in his arms, letting his own body take the brunt of the blow. he threw tony off of him and she rolled him over, ripping off the iron man mask. but he just laid there.

until hulk screamed in his ear.

"ah, oh my, god," he gasped. "what the hell? what just happened? oh god, please tell me nobody kissed me. i'm looking at you, rogers."

she laughed and threw her arms around him, crying into his neck.

steve breathed and plopped into the floor. "we won..."

"alrighty, yay!" tony breathed heavily. "good job, guys. let's just not come in tomorrow. let's just take a day. have you ever tried shawarma? there's a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. i don't know what it is, but i want to try it."

"we're not finished yet," thor looked to the ground.

"and then shawarma after."

"oh my god, tony," she sniffled. "not even death can stop you from talking, can it?"

"okay, you know what? just for that, you can buy your own shawarma."
