prologue

"You're a piece of shit, I hope I never see again," She hisses, a candle holder flying across the room, hitting me square in the jaw. I wince, the impact making my cheek throb. Instead of retaliating, I pack quicker, shoving all the clothes I could find in my small suitcase.

My mom stomps off, the floorboards creaking beneath her. I sigh in relief as I finish my task, pulling my leather jacket on. By now my whole head was aching, but the plane took off in less than an hour so I had to hurry.

I glanced around my house one last time while I shoved my shoes on. There was a clanging noise from the kitchen, snapping me back to reality.

I gulped, and walked through the front door.

On the car ride to the airport, I didn't look back once.
