Eli's life definitely became convenient and easier with the help of the parallel lines in her wrists. She easily has access to everything and anything. Like last night, she and Dean went to a date in some fancy restaurant that Dean insisted when Eli tried to decline because it was too expensive for them. Dean easily paid their meal by just letting the waiter scan his codes. He didn't even let Eli see the receipt.
Her codes can even be accessible through a gadget. Like you can see what you spent on through an app in any gadget you have. Eli liked to keep track of her earnings and the money she spent through her phone. And in case you lose your device and you're worried for your privacy getting hacked, you can just slide your finger three times over the bar codes in your wrist. It will automatically lock your account.
The only thing that bothered her was the fact that the government has its all access to their information. Because all of their data were accessible for the government to see. One of the goals of this Parallel Project was for people to be transparent, to make sure that no one was trying to rebel against the administration. Your social media accounts can only be open by scanning your codes so basically, the government can read everything you post and chat and hear every phone call you have.
And everyone seemed okay with that.
"The population number and birth rate has been too low for these past 50 years but the divorce rate has been high. So today, we will announce a new project that we will initiate immediately. It is called Parallel Populate Project. Scan your Parallel Codes and we will search for your Parallel Partner. Your Parallel Partner is someone who is genetically and personality compatible with you. It will ensure that you will have a happy marriage and a happy family with your partner. This project will benefit us all for we will have more future workers and leaders in the making. The only people who will be exempted from this project will be those people who are already married. And those people who already have families. We expect your full cooperation for this project to become successful. Thank you."
Eli watched as the President bowed and made his way through the large crowd of reporters trying to ask him questions. Eli looked at Dean worriedly. Dean sighed and pulled her close to his side. "I know what you are thinking, Eli. Do not be worried. I'm pretty sure we are perfectly compatible. We've been together for almost three years now. Do not overthink, love."
Eli still looked bothered. "But still, Dee. What if?"
Dean fiddled and played with her fingers. "I don't know, Eli. I guess we'll just have to hope and if the worst happens, then we'll just think of it at that moment. For now, let's just enjoy this movie alright?" Dean smiled sweetly at her and it was enough to melt all her worries away.
"You have logged in into Parallel Partners! Please scan your Parallel Codes to begin the search for your Parallel Partner, Ms. Elizabeth Barnes." Eli looked at Dean. Dean just nodded his head to encourage her. Eli reluctantly put her wrist in front of her phone's camera. She lost to Dean in rock-paper-scissors and so she'll be the first one to find who will be her Parallel Partner.
They watched tensely at her phone's screen as the Parallel Partner app loads. It took quite a time and just as they were losing interest on it, her phone dings loudly. They look back at he phone and the freeze. A robotic voice filled the room.
"Congratulations, Ms. Barnes! We have found your Parallel Partner! Meet Mr. Dylan Porter." and it displayed Dylan's familiar face in the screen. Eli heard Dean gasped.
