Chapter 38

Jeremy had a car waiting for at the Bob Hope Memorial Airport. Is was easier to get into and out of than LAX. Less people and paparazzi.

Louis helped putting the luggage into the car.

Jeremy held his daughter tight as they were driven to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Max was waiting for them. He informed Jeremy that tomorrow was the day they were taking Erika off of life support. That Marian had gotten there in time.

Louis helped Marian get settled into her hospital room while Jeremy talked to Max. He did notice he was giving Max a very old and dusty looking wine bottle.  He fluffed the pillows and turned on cartoons knowing she would like having it on in the back ground. A nurse came in a moment later to check vital and start an IV.  He told her he would be right outside if she needed anything. She told him she would be fine.

After the nurses left. Marian pulled out her phone. Don't freak out but I went to California. To see a guy about a heart. I'll text you when I have more information. Remember you need to be there for Katia. She texted Kaia.

Kaia walked to the kitchen after putting Karim down for a nap. The twins were with their grandparents for the day.  She picked up her phone and saw that Marian had texted her. Her hands began to shake as she read it.  She immediately hit call and waited to see if Marian would even answer.

Marian shook her head when she notices Kaia calling. She hit the decline button and proceeded to txt her back.

I told you not to freak out. We don't know anything yet, relax.

Kaia rolled her eyes.  Why is this so sudden? What happened? Please Marian!  She began to panic.  Telling me not to freak out was the wrong thing to say. You know that! Because guess what? I'm freaking out! 

You know my father has connection to people in California. One of his connection called and probably offered a trade. I don't know all the details, all I know is I'm in a hospital bed and daddy is talking to a doctor. He brought one of his extremely rare wine bottles, from that one documentary we saw as teenagers. So until we know for sure I don't want you coming here.  You have three kids, a husband and a sister to consider first. Once we know for sure I'm getting the heart, then you can come, but not until then. Do you hear me, your sister's wedding is what should be on the forefront of your mind.

Marian hoped that Kaia would listen to her and not jump on a plane. What if she didn't get the heart then they would come all the way down her for nothing.

Kaia had to sit down as she read Marian's words three times.

That bottle from like 18 something? And she's going to postpone the wedding once she knows where you are. She's not going to get married without you there! *

She felt her eyes well with tears.

And you're my sister too. I won't come until you tell me to but don't expect me to just sit here quietly and being kept out of the loop! *

I am telling you now aren't I?  Marian texted rolling her eyes.  Yes, that bottle is priceless and I can't believe my father is giving it up!  Your babies come first and when I know more I will have someone call you. Pray I get the heart and it all works out.

Kaia wiped away her tears. She hoped Jeremy knew what he was doing and that Marian would be able to get a heart.  I love you and please I don't care who it is or what time of the night it is, let me know as soon as there's news. Good or bad!
