I woke up to birds chirping in the high branches and a fire crackling next to me. I sat up and cracked my neck. I was so stiff from sleeping on the ground last night. I looked next to me to see that mysterious girl sitting over the fire warming herself up. "Your finally up." She said annoyed. "You had a nasty cut on you forearm. Meonskie poison."

"Me-what poison?" She rolled her eyes.

"Meonskie poison. Me-on-skie. To dumb it down for you it's giant lizard poison. Now tell me everything from the moment you woke up in that hospital."

"And how can I trust you?" I pointed out.

"Look," She rolled her eyes. "Do you want to live or die."

"Okay, I want to live so, it all started once I got up in hospital from Acoma..." I told her everything she needed to know, from the letter, to the flash backs and even to the giant lizard I fought back in the hospital. All the time I was talking to her, her expression was confusing. She wasn't surprise or scared like this has happened to her before, which was confusing because getting attacked by a giant lizard doesn't usually happen to everyone. "...and then I found you. Now who are you exactly?" She hesitated and then tensed up.

"Do you know who you are Rose?" She said ignoring my question. I shook my head. "Someone like you is called the 'Gifted.' The gifted is a person born with a gift. This gift comes to only one in every million births. We call it 'The Gift of Life.' The gift of life is like...how can I put this, a magical aura. This aura gives you strength and power, but it also attracts monsters. These monster's feeds on the aura we produce, that's why we are hunted a lot. That's why some of us don't live to twenty. Our aura gives the monsters power and strength. Monsters like that lizard man that attacked you in the hospital. He is only one of thousands of monsters and he Is only a minor monster."

Seriously, I had to be something special don't I. Like can't I just have a normal life. Argh!

"But what about Zera. The monster said Zera wanted me dead, who is she?"

"Zera, is like all monsters. Foul, evil and blood thirsty. But unlike all the monster she's their leader. She so powerful all the monster bow at her feet. None of us has ever seen her before but we know she's there. She gives orders to her minions to kill all the gifted. What the monsters don't know is that when they kill one of the gifted and absorb our aura, she kills them to get the power from our aura, so now the power is hers. That's why she is so feared she gains more power with every kill."

"But what about the letters and the flash backs I've been having?"

"The letters and warnings are guiders to help you. They only appear when a power spell has been casted. Normally one of the guardians has that much power to do so. As for the flash backs, I don't know about that."

"What are guardians?" I asked in confusion.

"Guardians are sort of like our guiders. They appear or whisper in our minds to do something or no to do something. Every gifted has one."

"They do?"

"Yes, even you."

"I don't understand."

"It'll take you a while to get your head around it, but you'll get there." My mind tried to keep up with what was being said but it was like she was talking gibberish.

"So," I said changing the subject. "you've been alone for five months? How horrible."

"No, I got saved by my friends. They found me on my own in the woods and helped me. They're called the pact. They find people like us and let them join their pact. They're the only family I got."

I paused for a second. I wanted to say something, but It was completely insane. I was going to do it, I was going to say it. "Can I join the pact?" Tiffany looked at me stunted and then laughed. "Of course, you can, your one of us, but we have to have a vote first. With the whole pact."

"Well, where are they?"

"They are not here Rose, they are thirty mile east. Past the swamp and down the valley next to the Neon river."

"Neon river?"

"It glows a neon blue every full moon. Hence why its call the Neon river." We both chuckled.

"How long have you known? Like that you are a 'Gifted.'"

She smiled. "For only four months and two weeks."

"And you know this much?"

She smiled and started poking a stick into the blazing fire. "I have great teachers. Now we better get going."

"Going where?" She rolled her eyes and chuckled.

"Have I told you, you ask a lot of questions." I chuckled. "Were going to the pact." Tiffany said as she stood up and picked up her backpack.

"One more question." I asked as she looked down at me.

"What's your name?"

She smiled. "Tiffany. My name is Tiffany."
