The next day Shawn and I went to my house after school and practised our duet at the Blue Chairs Cafe. We went through it at least six times before Shawn went back to his house to get ready. I stayed in my bedroom and put on some more decent looking clothes all while rehearsing my part in my head. While I was in the middle of putting on my shoes, mom my walks into my room and gives me this apologetic look on her face.
"Uh, hi mom" I meant for it to be a greeting but it came out as more of a question
"I'm so sorry sweetie" she said taking a seat next to me on my bed. What the actual fudge?
"I can't make it to your show tonight. My boss called me and told me that we are having a meeting at 6, which is when your performance starts, and he said that I can't miss it."
"Oh- well that's ok, there's always going to be other shows-"
"I don't think you understand what I'm saying here. I'm your ride to the Blue Chairs Cafe. How are you going to get there, if it wasn't 5:30 you could've walk there."
A sudden wave of panic waved over me. Oh hell no, I'm not missing this performance. Not tonight of all nights. Trying to seem calm, I responded with a
"I'll figure something out" but on the inside, I was flipping out.
"I'm so so sorry sweetie." my mom apologized before leaving me in my room. The instant the door closed behind her, I called Shawn.
"Hello?"
"How do you get to the Blue Chairs Cafe?!"
"Uh, my mom drives me. Why?"
"Mymomcan'tmaketotheCafebecauseshehasabusinessmeetingwithherbossandunlessIhavearide,thereiswayIcanmakeit-"
"WHOA, slow down, Jesus!"
"My mom can't make it to the Cafe because she has a business meeting with her boss and unless I have a ride, there is no way I could make it. Soooo long story short........ CAN I PLEASE HAVE A RIDE?!"
There was silence at the other end of the line until my phone made a ringing sound and sent me a notification that he had hung up. Great. Now what do I do? I went downstairs and found mom in the kitchen with a fancy suit on.
"Do you have it all figured out honey?" she asked without looking at me. You know, I could take the bus.
"Yup." I answered reassuringly. I was confident that I was going to make it until I remembered that none of the buses stop even relatively close to the cafe. God dammit! Why does it have to take 37 minutes to walk there?!
"Oh are you getting a ride with Shawn?" I was about to tell her the truth on how I was screwed on transportation to the cafe until my mom pointed to outside of the window to where a car was pulling up.
"Is that his mom?" she questioned.
I ran outside and opened the door to see Shawn get out of the car. He looked up and waved at me. You are freaking kidding me. I quickly ran back inside of the house and kissed my mom goodbye, then went back outside and got in the car.
"Shawn you are the best." I smiled at him.
"Puh-lease. Tell me something I don't know." he sassed to which I hit him on the shoulder.
"You hit like a girl!"
"That's cause I am one!" I retorted.
"Anyways, Mom this is Melissa, Melissa this is my mom. Oh, but she likes to be called Mel" he turned in his seat to give me a cocky smile. I huffed at him, then greeted his mom (I would've shook her hand but she kinda needs both hands to drive so-).
