*Rynn's POV*
I looked around my dark room and sighed. What could they want? What did I do wrong now? All my parents ever do is bug me about how their legacy needs to be upheld. I'm 17, and I couldn't care less about being king. Not if it means I have to hurt people. It's not right, but my parents don't care about my values. They say that I'm being too soft and to get over it. I can't, and I know I'm a vampire but that doesn't mean I want to hurt people.

I stand up and walk over to my dresser in the corner of my large room. My room is pretty empty considering it's a bedroom. I look in the mirror hung above my dresser. There stood a tall, slender, and pale guy. I recognized the person I was, but did my parents?  They've done horrible things to so many people. Did they recognize who they were anymore? Probably not.

I stride over to the door and grab the knob, and stop. I thought for a moment about my childhood here before sighing and walking out of the room. Childhood. What a silly word for such a horrible experience. At least for me it was.

I walked into the large throne room bustling with people as my dad barked orders at them. My mom was sitting in her large red and gold chair, while my dad stood arms crossed. When my dad saw me his expression softened.

"Ah, there you are Rynn!" he chirped.

"Here I am." I stood, arms crossed, and my eyes at my feet.

I looked up to see my mother shooting me an icy cold glare, and a shiver ran down my spine, giving me the chills. I tried to clear my throat, but it was far too dry. I knew my parents were waiting for me to say something. After a couple moments of exchanged glances I broke the silence.

"So...you guys needed me?"

It was my mother who spoke this time.

"Yes, and do watch your tone with us," she hissed, practically dripping with venom.

"I'm sorry, mother," I sighed.

"Good boy," she retorted.

My mother stood up off of her chair and started walking towards my father. My mother was medium height, fair skinned, and her hair hung in light brown curls. My father, on the other hand, was tall, dark haired, and had olive skin.

"There is something we need to discuss," my father began. "Your mother and I have learned of a great threat to the kingdom."

"What kind of a threat?" I questioned.

My mother piped up. "The kind that comes in human form," she paused. "A girl."

"A girl?" I snickered. "Why is a girl such a threat to you?"

My mother gave me the coldest look. If looks could kill, I'd be obliterated.

"You'd do well not to question your mother." My father gave me a stern look.

"Anyway... she is an extremely powerful witch, but she is also very unpredictable."

I gave my mother a curious look before asking, "Unpredictable how?"

"She was born with great powers, and has no one to teach her how to use them. That's why she is such a threat. She has enough power to wipe out villages at a time, and she must be dealt with." My mother spoke with the utmost disgust in her voice.

"Why not teach her instead of killing her?" I inquired, and fathers face turned 10 shades lighter.

My mother got this murderous look on her face, but when my father put his hand on her shoulder she took a deep breath. She stood there in silence for a minute, and then proceeded

"I have never asked you to do anything for this kingdom, but for the good of the kingdom," she paused as if trying to find the right words. "Kill her, Rynn."

I suddenly started to feel an emotion I had only felt one other time in my life...

+++

When I was little I was never taught empathy. With parents like mine things like that don't exist. My parents have no regard for their subjects lives, let alone human lives. Me, on the other hand, I was brought up not feeling anything for other people. Until one day, when I was 12 a little girl from the village fell. The little girl's hands were cut up, and the tiniest bit of blood coming out. The little girl started crying, and I felt something I had never felt before in my life. Sadness.

I paced back and forth in my bedroom thinking about what my mother had just asked of me.

She asked me to kill someone. To end someones life. How could I do that? I can't, but I have to. What? NO! I can't kill someone, especially a young girl.

My mothers words echoed in my mind.

She's a threat, and she must be dealt with. My mothers voice whispered in my mind.

I paced for another few minutes before I came to my final decision. I can't and won't  kill someone to make life easier for my mother, but how can I tell her no?

I paced some more before I came to the conclusion I had to rip the band-aid off and tell her.

I started to walk towards my door just as someone knocked. I kept walking and opened the door to see my mother standing there.

"Mother, I was just about to come find you,"

"Have you made a decision yet?"

"Yes, and I won't kill an innocent. I can't." I emphasized the can't. She needed to know how much life meant to me.

"You will if you ever want to live a normal life," she spat with so much venom in her voice.

I was speechless.

"W-what are you talking about?" I sputtered.

"If you do as we ask, and kill this girl, I'll give you the cure to vampirism." she smirked.

"You'll let me be human? You'll let me leave this place?" I questioned.

I eyed my mother up and down trying to see if I could detect some dishonesty. I couldn't find any hint that she was lying to me, but that wasn't my mothers style. When she said something she meant it. She wasn't a liar.

"Of course."

Well crap.
