I didn't know what I was doing here, at her door. I had watched her sing, and she had a real gift. My heart leapt with emotion the second she started singing. I've never heard a voice so beautiful. After she left, I got a lot of compliments for hiring her. Maybe I just wanted to thank her for taking the job, or for putting on a great show. That's what I told myself as I knocked on her door. When she opened it, I stood there, staring at her like a fool before she said, "How can I help you Your Highness?" I cleared my throat and said, "I just wanted to say that you did a great job tonight, but you left before I could tell you at the event," "Oh. Well thank you. I enjoyed singing for you- I mean the royal family at the event." Her face turned red and she quickly averted her eyes. "If there is nothing else, I should really get to bed. Goodnight Prince Xander." Prince Xander? As she started to close the door, I was desperate. "Wait-" What was I doing? "I just wanted to ask you a few questions."  "Okay, sure. Please come in Your Highness." "Call me Xander." "Are you sure?" "Yes," I said. I tried not to notice the fact that she was wearing a robe made of white silk. I also tried to ignore how beautiful she looked. She led me out onto the balcony that overlooked my favorite bench in the garden."So what are the questions you wanted to ask me?" "Oh, right. Where did you learn how to play the violin like that?" She seemed surprised at my question. "My mom has been teaching me to play ever since I was little. Its been my favorite instrument since I was three." "Wow. That's amazing." I wish that we had hired her sooner. "You have a beautiful voice. I wish I could sing like that." "Thank you Your High- I mean Xander." The way she said my name sent a wave of electricity through me. "I hope I get to sing at another event soon. I loved every minute of it." I smiled, " Oh don't worry about that. I'm pretty sure we are going to have another event next week." "Really?! I can't wait!" she said. I laughed. "Then I made the right choice in picking you for the job." "Wait, what? What did you say?" "I said that I certainly picked the right person for the job." "Wait a minute. You picked me personally?"  " Yes. Well technically, my family did. I'm sorry if nobody told you. I thought you already knew. That's why we were happy when you accepted. Are you upset?" "No. Just surprised and even happier that I accepted." That was a genuine smile on her face. I smiled back at her and we just smiled at each other for what seemed like an eternity. "Well, um, I have to get going. My father is probably expecting me." "Oh. Thank you for coming by." "Thank you for making the event a special one. I hope you have a wonderful night miss Sarah Adams." "Thank you. you too. goodnight." I opened the door and, with one last look at her, I headed to my room.
