Alan wakes up to the sun begin to shine through the window. He looks around, seeing he's still in the same small room, and he notices someone lying in the bed. He gets up and walks around to the other side of the bed, and sees Sam, sound asleep. He's hooked up to a heart monitor, and fluids. Alan just stands there, watching him finally calm and at peace. A small smile runs across his face as he tilts his head, looking at Sam.

"Good morning. I'm Dr. Morrison."

"Alan Shore." Alan turns around and reaches out to shake her hand.

"I know you've had a rough night. She lost a lot of blood."

"He."

"Excuse me?"

"He. He lost a lot of blood. Sam is male, therefore requests to be referred to with male pronouns."

"Oh, okay. I'm sorry for the mistake, I didn't know. Well, anyway, I think Sam needs to be admitted. I was told he isn't safe at home, and the self-harming is very unhealthy, we need to have him get professional help."

"I honestly don't know how to respond to that. I've known him for less than 24 hours, he hasn't given a lot of information, but he's definitely having emotional distress. I know he needs help, but wouldn't you need someone in his family to consent?"

"Yes sir, we would. Do you have any idea how I can reach her - his, sorry, parents or guardians?"

"I'm sorry but no."

"Well, then I guess we'll just keep him for another night or two for observation. I'll have a room ready for him in a couple minutes."

"Is there any way I could request a room with a couch or recliner or something? I would prefer if I could stay with him, I want to make sure he's okay."

"Of course, Mr. Shore. Thank you for your time."

Alan nods as the doctor walks out of the small room. He turns around and sees Sam looking at him, confused as to what's going on. Alan gives a small smile and walks over to the chair beside the bed and sits down.
