⚠️ SLIGHT GORE WARNING ⚠️

It's almost pitch black. I'm sitting in my cave in the midnight zone, waiting. I sit still, watching as a little fish swims by. I stare at him, hoping he'll catch my gaze. Soon, he looks at me, noticing how my blue eyes glow in the darkness. He slowly swims closer and closer. He was only a few feet away from me when I jerk forward, snapping my jaws at the fish. I bite down, tasting the blood. I rip it to shreds, discarding the bones and eating the meat. I smile in success and quickly swim up towards the surface. I had been down there for 45 minutes and I was running out of air. I slightly wince as it gets brighter the farther up I go, stopping a few times to get used to the light.

When I get to the surface I stick my head out of the water, taking a deep breath. I look around, only to see the same island that I see every day. I dive back underwater and head towards the reef. I quickly cut through the water, my tail pumping up and down. As the reef comes into view, I stop the movement of my tail, letting me glide through the water. Some fish ran away from me in fear, some stared at me until I was out of sight, and some just didn't care. I suddenly come to a halt, noticing a big, juicy looking fish. My stomach starts to growl, letting me know that the tiny fish I ate earlier wasn't enough. Since I was in the sunlight zone, and there weren't any caves around, I couldn't lure it in with my eyes.

I slowly crept towards it, trying not to make any sudden movements. I was now only a few feet away from it. It started to turn and I opened my mouth, baring my teeth and getting ready to strike. It looked straight at me and I froze. It looked smaller from behind, but now that I looked at it from a different angle, I noticed it was almost as big as me. It suddenly took off.

I chased after it, not letting my prey get away. I was faster than it, but it kept making quick turns that made it hard to keep up.

Eventually, the fish got tired and it slowed down some. I smirked. I opened my mouth and got ready to snap. I lurched forward just as the fish swerved left. I slammed headfirst into something hard. I sunk to the ocean floor, dizzy. My head throbbed as a groaned. I started to see spots as my vision became blurry. I closed my eyes and let the darkness consume me.

I slowly opened my eyes, staring at the sand that I was laying on. Remembering the events that happened before I passed out, I quickly sat up, causing the sand around me to stir. I didn't need more air, so I had to have been out for under an hour. I look up at what I had run into. I had to swim away from it a little bit so I could see the whole thing.

It looked like an....octopus?

Blinked a few times to make sure I wasn't seeing things. It looked....odd....

I swam up to one of its tentacles and looked in through a....window? No. There was a garden inside! I swim to another tentacle and notice that it was split into two bedrooms, same as another tentacle. I swim over to the last tentacle. It had sports equipment and some other stuff.

The main part of the octopus seemed cool. It had panels of confusing buttons and switches, as well as a few counters with stuff on them.

I noticed some movement inside and I swam to the glass. I noticed a strange creature sitting in a chair pressing buttons. One of the three TVs held photos of different kinds of marine life on them. The creature clicked on a photo and it went full-screen. It was a picture of a large school of fish. My mouth started to water and my mind started to wander.

So many fish......

I put my paws up and accidentally tapped my claws on the glass. The creature turned around in the chair and stood up when it saw me. I took a second to memorize what it looked like.

It was brown with a pink skirt and two barrettes in her hair. It was wearing blue boots, a blue hat, and what seemed to be a blue choker.

It grabbed what seemed to be a camera and pointed it at me. I quickly shot downwards, out of sight. My heart started to race.

It saw me

I swam to the foot of the octopus where I was least likely to be seen. I sat still for a few seconds to calm my racing heart.

I have to get away from here.....whatever this place is.....it doesn't seem good.....

My stomach growled and I sighed, letting out a few air bubbles. I could either try and lure in a fish, or I could chase a fish in the reef.... I'd rather chase than wait. I slowly glide through the water, wanting to save my energy to catch a fish. I hear a whoosh sound and I look behind me at the structure. The mouth of it had opened up and an object came out. It looked like a giant, turquoise anglerfish. I noticed that there was a window.....of course there is......

The creature was in there with its camera and there was also a polar bear, a cat, a sea otter, and a penguin. One thing a noticed about them was that they were all wearing those blue chokers and hats.

They must be a team.....

The creature noticed me and pointed to me. My heart picked up as the vehicle headed my way. I took off, racing through the coral reef, fish dodging out of my way. As I got out of the reef, I looked behind me, noticing they were still on my tail. I looked ahead of me, seeing the sharp drop where my cave was waiting down below.

I feel a sudden pang in my chest and my eyes widen in realization.

I need air!

I growl.

This is gonna be hard.....

I breathe out all the air in my lungs as I shoot upwards towards the surface. I shoot into the air, taking a deep breath as gravity pulls me back to the water. I feel the air bubbles form around me and I sit still for a second so they disappear. As soon as they were gone, I bolted down towards my cave. I heard the whir of the vehicle behind me, encouraging me to go faster.

I was swimming straight down now, heading towards my cave. I notice a crack in the rock ahead of me and I get an idea. When I got closer to the crack, I suddenly changed direction and slid into the crack. It was a tight fit, but I made it. I lifted the end of my tail to make sure it wasn't sticking out, and luckily, it wasn't. I hear the whir of the vehicle get louder and I start to shake in fear. Soon the sound started to fade and I sigh.

I squeeze out of the crack and look around, trying to spot the vehicle. Once the coast is clear, I swim down to my cave and curl up inside. I look out in front of me at the random rocks and plants, hoping another fish would swim by. I sure wasn't going back out there for a while. Although I would have to anyways to get more oxygen.

Without realizing, I slowly closed my eyes, falling asleep.
