The results of our sittings were due today, so despite my splitting headache I decide to wake up early. Grabbing my pink unicorn slippers, I quietly make my way downstairs to get breakfast, knowing the rest of my family would be sleeping. Since the disturbing news report a few days ago my family and just about everyone in America has gone into frenzy. Almost all Wal-Mart stores have been cleared as people stock up in case of an attack. The internet has crashed several times due to an overload of overseas calls and messages, people fearing they may never see their families again. I tried to contact Xavier but the line died, a part of me was relieved as I still hadn't found the right words. So maybe it's best that way, forgetting rather than hoping for a future that will never come. I sit at the table alone, in silence, except from the faint humming of the refrigerator. Staring at my bowl of cereal, I begin to daze not feeling like eating on a day like this. I'm so transfixed that I don't hear my father come in, yawning and rubbing at his red eyes.
"Morning, darling sorry I'm was up late today" he says and kisses my forehead.
"It's fine dad I didn't want to wake you, all the night hours you've been working are really hitting you hard aren't they?", I reply and go to make him some toast as he can barely stand and do it himself.
"You know how it is now Thea, working as a defence minister for the Unitide they expect more from us. They're scared about what's happening and they haven't got a solution, they like being in control of the galactic 'situation' but it seems like they aren't". He replies whilst again vigorously rubbing his bloodshot eyes.
The Unitide have spent 100 years trying to find a solution to this problem; so many have died in the preocess, their sacrifice so far amounting to nothing. The world is dying and soon all that will be left is a hole where the most civilised planet had once been.I get ready for school quickly and decide to walk to school as my parents weren't exactly functioning properly to take me and the bus was late. The street light's fliker wildly as I make my way to school. The darkness im sure would have scared those who lived 100 years ago, yet for me it was a welcome comfort it gave me a valid reson to officially hate my life. Hugging my jumper I contnue down the block to school, staring in to the distance I dont realise a car pull up beside me.
Instinct tells me to carry on walking. Fast.
"Thea, Thea wait up its Evelyn", a voice form the car calls out from behind me. I look back hesitantly and vaguley notice the blonde hair blowing from the window, so I slow down down and wait for the person to pull up. The mysterious person who nearnly gave me a heart attack a second ago is Evelyn Pearce, the shy girl from my Unitideism class. She opens the door and offers me a ride, I get in quickly and am instantly hit by the warmth of her car.
"Hi Evelyn thanks for the ride... but i um didn't know you lived around here." I ask and slighlty adjust my jumper as my body becomes fully warm. She stays silent for a while her gaze on the road her hands never leaving the wheel except to push up her glaases. Coming to a traffic light, she turns to me.
"Sorry about that Thea im OCD when it comes to driving, with all the dark and fog and just lack of life on the streets it gets a little scary out here by myself and yeah-" she fell silent again as the lights signalled for us to go.
"No dont worry Evelyn i would probably be pretty freaked at these driving conditions too haha, i guess its better if i dont learn to drive." I say without expecting a reply from her. She clears her throat and ask's her holocontroller to get her a drink of water.
"About before you asked if i live around here... i dont...well not exactly Ive been visiting my Dad who lives down the street from you in the big grey house. And well i didnt really intend on seeing anybody on my way to school, but seeing as I like you I decided to stop" she says and smiles at me before returning quickly to the road. Somehow the journey to school is taking longer than usual, most likely because Evelyn is drving at an alarming rate of 10mph.
