I walked into the school's office and looked around, inhaling the smell of hand sanitizer and freshly brewed coffee. Welp, here's to a new year in a new school, in a new city, with new people. Thanks mom. I sighed and walked over to the receptionist, hiking my handbag to rest comfortably on my left shoulder.
"Hello dear, how can I help you?" A lady probably in her late thirties asked as I cleared my throat when I reached her desk.
"Um, I'm the new student. Marceline Montgomery," I trailed off, hoping she'd catch on.
"Oh yes, here's a folder- it contains your classes, a map of the school, and requirements that you can fill out today at home and bring back tomorrow. Good luck, sweetheart," She smiled. I smiled back and walked out, taking out the paper that contained my classes.
As I stood in front of the door that read Room 103: Algebra, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I knocked on the door and the commotion that was heard from the other side of the door came to a halt. After waiting a few minutes, a woman opened the door with a big smile and looked at me.
"Are you the new student?" she asked cheerfully. I nodded my head a little, giving her a nervous half smile. She clapped her hands together and pulled me into the room.
"Class, this is a new student," she stated, then turned towards me," Why don't you introduce yourself?"
"Um well my name's Marceline, I moved here from San Diego, I'm sixteen, and I think that's about it." A few people raised their hands, and I chose a guy that sat on the right side of the room, front row.
"Your name is from Adventure Time."
"Thanks for pointing out the obvious," I say rolling my eyes playfully. I answer a few more questions and the teacher directs me to sit in the back row. I take a seat and pull out a notebook and random mechanical pencil from my bag.
"Hi I'm Annabeth, Annabeth Crawford." I heard from a seat next to me. I turned and was faced with a girl with brown wavy hair, crystal blue eyes, and was just breathtakingly beautiful to say the least.
"Marceline, as you've probably heard," I smiled shaking her outstretched hand.
"You and I are gonna get along real well, I can just feel it. Can I see your schedule?" she asks. I pulled out the paper that I had put back into my manila folder and passed it to her. She reads it over and her face lights up.
"We have all classes together, this is fantastic," she cheers.
"Oh that's great, at least I'll know one person," I smile.
"Welcome to Green Creek High, Miss Montgomery." Annabeth smiles and firmly shakes my hand. I laugh at her sophisticated gesture and so does she.
The bell rang twenty minutes later, so I packed all the supplies back into my bag and headed out of the class. I felt someone grab my arm, and found that it was Annabeth with a big grin.
"Okay, so after algebra we have art, then science, then there's a five minute break, after that is physical ed, then lunch, and finally English." Annabeth said all in one breath. I nodded and laughed while pulling her into art class. Classes went by faster than I expected and here I was at lunch looking around at the crowded lunchroom.
"Oh c'mon babes, our table is this way." Annabeth said while tugging at my arm. We walked up some stairs and sat at the table near the windows.
"Hey everyone, this is Marceline. She's new," Annabeth said taking a seat. I sat next to her and exchanged a few words to...my new friends, I guess? Yeah, I think that works.
"So, where'd you come from?" A guy named Logan asked.
"San Diego: home of the tannest babes and the raddest waves," I smiled.
"Wow, hipster and hot. You're gonna fit in quite well," Another guy said, I think his name was Aiden. We all conversed and laughed, passing time to get to know one another and eat. The bell rang and most of us parted our ways to different classes.
This could be a great new start.
