A bump shoots me up from the seat waking my resting husk and killing my short lived dream. Why can't I just dream for the rest of my life? Sighing sitting up with a constant pounding draining my emotions and thoughts. The rolling view of a vast ocean, and tall trees occasionally bordering the side.
"Jimmy, where are we?" I ask car lagged. If you could call it that. His eyes caught mine through the rear view mirror.
"Los Angels, miss." He reply's with a slight smile LA, the city of spending loads of money just for clean water. My eyes track to the ocean pressing my hand on the chilled window. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my whole life. When you live in Arizona there are no traces of this.
"I really wish I could walk along it." I sadly mumble out loud wishing it just stayed in my mind. I'm such a drag on this guy. I don't want him to waist his time letting me walk along a path. Quiet whispers from the front of the car barely dazed me because I was raised well.
"Em. I'll drop you off to walk along the ocean." He says slowly pulling over.
"No Jim. You could get fired." I repel his generosity I don't want to inconvenience him.
"Emily it will help me because one of your foster parents family members gave me a gift for you. You can walk along the ocean and open it on your own." He says backed up with a fearful grin.
"Ok," I say stepping out of the car almost tripping with the pounding in my head. He rolls down the window awkwardly handing me a flat square box that was obviously a cd.
"I'll be a mile down there ok?" I nod back to his question as he slowly drives away. I start to walk once he is out of eye sight. I chillingly walk along side the sea brushing the frail box. I step aside and hold the old railing timidly losing my sense at the sight of my foster dads handwriting.
The flat box tenderly blanketed the cd. It was a old one that he made for me. I chuckle as tears slip leading my eyes back to the forbidden waters. The oceans wispy waves captivate my breath as sweet tender scales sound from the water. The human singing that was impossibly made by the waves pushed my curiousness to investigate. I bring my weight forward to hopefully see campers below but all my large child eyes see is the deep rocky water below.
Before I could even father the sight the railing chain snapped sending me forward into cold water. The music stopped right after my body plopped into the water. The impact sends me into a sudden shock jolting me into an underwater state. I look above me for the provable last time as all the familiar lights faded. My lungs sting for more air. Whispers in the water spring my head to the side. My nose plugs as a dark object hides itself in the shadows. My heart rate races as another one comes next to the other with glowing eyes.
They inch closer to me probably thinking I'm their next meal. Once they get in the hue of the light my mind confused me. It is a mermaid, well mermen. The water stilled around me, I finally understand now. These things were angels that came to take me to deaths door obviously. One of the mermen waves his hand making everything light.
"You can breath now." The tall one says as my noses feels air and I trust the creature and breath the sweet air deeply.
"What are you?" I cough out trying to propel myself back. They look at each other as 3 more enter looking perplexed at the sight of me. They look at each other sharing the same thought.
"I'm Jonah," The one that told me to breath said, "This is Zach, Jack, Corbyn, and Daniel." Jonah said finishing the list one the first one I saw.
"We are sirens." The one with curly hair said. Jack. Jonah slaps him on the arm as a pain in my shoulder stabs my shoulder blade. My hand protectingly raps around it as it illuminates in light. Zach swims behind me and when he sees he covers his mouth. I scream as it intensifies and spreads the pain over my whole body.
"Zach what is it?!" Daniel shouts moving to my side trying not to pop the bubble around my head that supplies me air. My vision specks as I lose my muscle movement.
"She is getting the mark." He slips out.
"Get her to the surface." Jack yells picking me up and treading to the top. The light warms my aching body and immediately turning it cold when I'm on land. I curl up into a ball shaking and crying.
"How is this possible?" Jonah asks Corbyn as the whole group turns to look at him. He holds my hand as he closes his eyes.
"I don't know." He whispers pulling his hand back awestruck. I shiver again wishing I could die right now.
"Guys, She is freezing." Jack relays on them noting my body signals. A warm in-brace slows my chilled bones. I look up into Daniel's eyes who is warming me. My curios eyes track down to a pair of human legs?! My breathing radiates. There can be sirens walking with us?
"Guys we are losing her." Daniel says worried looking into my eyes.
"What do we do?" Zach asks anxiously.
"I don't know." Corbyn says knowing they will ask him.
"Cd." I whisper out breathily. Everyone's eyes look at me then track around for it.
"There!" Jonah shouts at the floating box on the water. Jonah concentrates on it as a wave of water picks it up and plops it on the surface. My vision blackens and everything blurs into the darkened day.
