Lance sat in the band room quietly by himself before placing his fingers on the piano and practicing a song that they're going to perform at the school's competition, they attend a private school for the musical arts and every year they hold a competition for the students to take a part of, and if they win they get 10,000 dollars in scholarship money. Lance is part of a band called Voltron and they've been practicing nonstop since their second year. Lance's part is crucial, the piano is the backbone of the song. Lance does not want to mess it up for his bandmates, so here he is. Practicing before the competition.

This school is different, it's not just for the classical students but for the more modern music students as well. It's always been the classical versus modern music since the school opened. Voltron has a rival, the Garlan Orchestra. Voltron was always versing them. When it came to grades Voltron beat them by a few marks but when it came to drawing in a crowd the Garlan Orchestra always knew how to do that. So Voltron is pulling something risky, which they decided in their second year that they would perform 'We are the Champions' by Queen. The rule in the music world is to never try to perform a song by Queen. They're so legendary that society thinks that it should be left alone. But the five of them have been practicing for two years on this one song. As they learn in school they use those techniques to improve the song.

Lance plays the piano, which was odd for the band to adjust to. Lance always played the guitar, he always carried his acoustic everywhere with him. But when they chose this song, all of a sudden he showed his bandmates what he could do on the piano. They were amazed with his talent and questioned how he could play so well. He didn't give them an answer, that's until Keith realized something. In middle school, him and Lance attended the same piano teacher and they bumped into each other a couple times. That was when Keith found out that Lance was a child prodigy. He lost his motivation to play the piano when his mother died, but then he officially met Keith and he began to pick it up again. Keith was his muse, he began to write his own scores and his own songs.

Keith didn't want to bother him so he sat by the door and watched Lance practice for a couple rounds of the song. Keith smiles and decides to walk up to Lance when Lance starts to get frustrated. "Babe you okay?" Keith kiss the nape of his neck. Lance just groans and leans on Keith's stomach. "I don't know if I can hit that high note by next week." Lance closes his eyes, he doesn't want to cry in front of Keith. "Freddie Mercury is a legend, Keith." Lance turns around on the piano bench, "How can I reach him Keith?" Lance begins to freak out. Keith sadly smiles and leans down and gives Lance a kiss. "How bout this, you run through the song and we can sing together." Lance thinks about it, "But Keith I don't know if I'm the right person to be singing his part, it's-" Keith cuts him off with another kiss. "Lance, you're a tenor, just like him. I believe you can do it, so does Hunk, Pidge, and Shiro." Keith sits down on the bench beside him and Lance swings back around and looks at Keith. "You don't have to sound like Freddie Mercury, Lance. As long as he's in your heart while singing the song that's all that matters." Keith kisses his cheek then pats his thigh.

"You do your parts and I'll do mine, I promise you should be able to do it. If you panic, think of me. I'll always be there for you." Keith watches Lance bring his hands up to the keys. Keith smiles when he starts playing. That's when this aura changes and he hears his bandmates playing but they're not there. This time it was different, Lance is going to hit that high note. Keith just knows it. Keith waits for his part patiently, while watching his boyfriend play his part. When his part does come he plays it on cue and as perfect as it can be. That's when Lance starts to feel it, he feels the music. That high note that always haunted him is coming up and this time it's different, it's no longer scaring him. Keith watches him hit that high note, and his eyes start to tear up. Lance's eyes shine, his playing changes and his aura is suddenly really bright.
