Hanging out is one of the things that Zeke and I are talented at. It has to be quiet and somewhere that we can do whatever we want. The rooftop in this school is one of it.
It is technically off limits to everyone, and that's perfect. We'll be the only ones. And, knowing full well that it is afternoon, all the students have left.
" Y'know Zeke, could you think of something for me to do?" I say as I look up at the clouds resembling the color of the setting sun.
"Take it easy, for now, Kira. We've just started the school year." Zeke says, flipping the next page of the GameZone magazine.
"That's the point! It's not even halfway yet and I'm already bored!" I abruptly turned myself toward him. Zeke remained calm.
" I need something to keep my hands busy." I continued.
Zeke put the magazine aside and finally looked at me.
"Kira, you always try new things, focus on it for a while, and then abandon it later on." As always, my best friend is straight to the point.
And he is right. It has always been like this since I remember. Once, I started getting into cross stitching, it was warm and feels relaxing. But after a few weeks of constantly focusing on the work, I just stopped midway and never understood why. I tried going back but it the feeling was different from the first time I tried it.
I still don't know why but I believe that somewhere out there a 'hobby' is waiting for me. That's why I keep on trying things.
Oh, I do have one hobby. I'm continuously doing it since I was in 5th grade. I transferred here in the province from the city. It was being with Zeke and our young selves.
While Mine's hobbies are nonexistent( except for that one) Zeke's are in the world of gaming. When choosing a game to play, he says he wants to look through the story of games like RPG. And he usually plays for about 6-12 hours every day. It's much longer with those times when we just didn't want to talk to each other. You know, the stage of closing your social life for a while.
"That's exactly why, this time, I need it long-term. Something that will last for about—" I stopped and deliberately touch my chin with my forefinger and thumb with my right hand.
"Hmm... about this school year?"
"Let's see if it will last 'til the school year ends. He sighs as he stands up and fishes out his cell phone in his front pocket.'
He will probably call Mr. Antonio Martines, the event organizer of the Arena Games. An event about the gathering of players, meeting real-time and of course, playing PvP games online. It will be held this weekend.
A few rings and the call connected. A rough voice answered.
"Antonie Martinez speaking..."
""Sir Antonio", Zeke answered. He always tends to save his words.
"Oh, Zeke...Do not worry, everything's going well."
"All you need to do is go to the event on Saturday. Bring Kira, your girlfriend. Now, you will have to excuse me." The call disconnects.
"Wow, that was fast." I sarcastically said. Zeke put back his phone in his front pocket.
"And do we get a bonus or something if we go as a couple on the event?" Zeke looked at me.
"No." He plainly said, keeping his poker face.
I shrugged.
It's fine with us, pretending or being thought to be an item as long as the circumstances will be of benefit for us.
"Then, let's go like usual." I stated. Zeke has to follow my pace this time. He's absolutely O-kay with it.
The society thinks that being the best of friends with an opposite sex will eventually lead to a romantic relationship. I think not.
It depends on what kind of relationship you have with your friend. Factors like how much do you know each other are taken into consideration.
"Wait." I unconsciously said it out loud.
My prankster of a brain whispered, "Well, how about testing it out with Zeke" This nonchalant best friend of mine. I'd like to break that poker face of his, hehe...
I looked at him, wearing my mischievous smile.
"What are you planning?"
Zeke knows what kind of smile it is. A smile that thought of something really crazy.
If I have to analyze, there's only 0.1% chance of it developing to that kind of relationship but, I'm sure the process will be fun. After all, he doesn't know what plans I'm about to execute.
To see if our relationship is something trivial that will easily be broken by romance.
"Let's go as a couple."
