Terror flashed in their eyes, each looking terrified but no one was as terrified as ameera, it was written all over her face. It came to her as a great relief when the lieutenant pointed to Jalila. Yes she was sorry for jalila but ameera was still thankful she wasn't the one picked. she knows all about it, she knows how bad it can be, she had an experience already, another one she'd never pray for.
Over at the storage room, jalila was chained up to bars supporting the ceiling. Hours of standing had rendered her body weak, her whole weight supported only by her wrists.
The lieutenant walked in but Jalila was too weak to notice as she'd slumped unconscious. He came up to her staring detastefully before giving her a gentle slap to revive her. His rock solid hands were sure to wake an elephant much less jalila.
Jalila lifted her chin to match his face, streak of dried tears casted a shadow on her roughed up face. She looked rather pale. She knew not what was going on, If the lieutenant is going to crucify her at least she should know why. But Jalila knew that was also a privilege she don't have.
The lieutenant was on edge, should Jalila happen to have any information about him and Anita, if she spied on them then he'll have to make her talk, and fast! He can't take the risk of having his information in the the wrong hands.
" Okay here's how this is going to work" the lieutenant started, clasping her face with his left hand, "I'm going to ask you a series of questions and you're going to tell me exactly what I need to know else..." he reduced his voice to a whisper bringing his mouth to jalila's ear, his breath fanning her cheek "...else I'll make sure you die in the most slowest and painful of ways and nobody can save you, so shall we begin? " he asked, a question he knew had no answer.
"I want you to think before you talk, I'm not a fan of wrong answers, needless to say I have all the time in the world, so you better make it easy for yourself and talk. WHO SENT YOU?! "
"I.. I.. " her voice sounded hoarse and distorted almost sounding alien to her own ears. "I.. I.. Swear... " drained of fluids and energy, her voice trailed off choking her on her words.
" I guess you need water huh? " he reached for a sachet water and emptied it in a cup. He brought it right up to her mouth and let some liquid flow down her chin taking extreme caution not to allow her have a sip, finally in a nonchalant manner he let go of the cup intentionally " Oops — I guess that's all you can have until you tell me what I want to know, now I'm going to ask you one more time, WHO SENT YOU?! " he seethed at her
Jalila could barely stand, the weight she rested on her wrists felt as though she was heavier than two fire trucks combined, her chapped lips weren't making speech any easier. Jalila stayed silent a while maybe a little longer than she'd hoped to, but before she could come up with a reply a strong coordinated fist landed her midsection further destabilising her.
The sheer force of the punch took the air out of her lungs. A loud scream was appropriate for the situation but Jalila had no energy to do so but wince. All she felt was the pain that revibrated all over her body, the pain was the only thing keeping her conscious, all she did was sob, most of it internally as she was physically drained.
"firstly I do not appreciate people lying to me or wasting my time, secondly that was the most humane and considerate response you'll ever get during our little chat. So help yourself and save yourself from further agony, just confess. So I'll rephrase my question, who do you work for"
Yet again Jalila was unable to answer his question and this time around a fist landed on her right cheek and another to her left kidney. The pain was enormous almost unbearable.
" I.. I... I.. swear I don't work for anyone, I s.. s.. Swear I'm not a spy, I've never been one I beg you to please let me go, please!" Jalila was finally able construct a full sentence amid sobs that were now audible, breathing frantically.
"OH! So you can speak? That's a good start. Now tell me who sent you? Tell me all you've heard and I'll let you go"
Jalila was at a crossroad, unsure if to own up to a crime she never committed or just hold up to the truth and get herself killed. It was a decision she'd have to make – Fast!
