Peters POV
"We are here today to remember the lives of two great people."Tears welled up in my eyes as an arm wrapped around me.
"They will be sorely missed by all who knew them. So long and goodnight Richard and Mary Parker."
The tears finally begin to fall as I looked at the stone in front of me.
'In memory of Richard and Mary Parker,
beloved parents of Peter Parker and amazing friends to all. who knew them.
Although they are now gone, they will live on in our hearts forever.'Aunt May took my hand and led my to the car.
//////////
Throughout the rest of the night, people came up to me and said things like "I'm sorry for your loss" and "I understand". But they didn't.
No one did. They weren't the ones who's Mummy and Daddy weren't coming home. No one understood. The day was a blur of tears and pity. By the time Aunt May took me home and put me to bed I had no tears left to cry. I lay in bed thinking.
I could faintly hear Aunt May crying next door with Uncle Ben. I just lay helpless, staring up at the ceiling. It was covered in photos of Mummy and Daddy. That time when we went to the park, my first day of school, all of the pictures that I drew them. They were some of the only things that I had left of them.
Suddenly, through the darkness I heard an unfamiliar voice say, "I'm sorry. I-I-I just can't any more. I'm so sorry, please forgive me. It was just a faint whisper in my head but it made me feel safe. I closed my eyes and for a minute, I could have sworn that I could feel the wind whipping my blonde hair and could see the water just below me...
WAIT what?! Blonde hair?! That's not right, I have brown hair...
"Hello?" I whispered shakily "Is anyone there?"
There was complete silence for a few minutes. The voice had just been a figment of my imagination, hadn't it? Just my imagination trying to combat my loneliness. My parents always did say that I had an overactive imagination.
"Who's there?..."
There was that voice again. It sounded cold and frightened. As if the person that owned it had just been caught doing something that they shouldn't be doing.
"Who's there?" I called condescendingly into my seemingly empty room.
"I asked first!"
"Okay then, whatever I'm Peter Parker who are you?"
"Sorry what? I heard you say I'm but I didn't catch your name."
"Peter Parker."
"Huh?"
"P-E-T-E-R P-A-R-K-E-R!"
"I still can't hear you but oh well I'll give you a name of my own. You can be..." trailed off the voice in thought, "... AH- I know! PP! Because that is literally all I could understand from what you were saying!"
I internally rolled my eyes at that comment. Of course my brain would create me a crazy imaginary friend.
"Ok, you picked my name so I'm gonna pick yours."
"Knock yourself out."
"You are..." I thought. Annoying? Nah too blunt... Insane? Again, mean. Erm... "...AHA! Pool! Because when I heard you talk to me, when I closed my eyes I saw some water!"
There was a brief moment of silence from the other side. Then a small giggle, witch became a cackle which became a belly laugh.
"Good thinking. I like that PP." he said in between wheezes of laughter. "So, how old are you PP? I'm 14. What is your favourite colour? Ooooooh, what is your favourite animal? What colour is your hair? Do you like Mexican food? Because I LOVE it. What colour are your - oh. Sorry I'm rambling aren't I? You don't need to answer my questions if you don't want, I'm just exited to have a friend and -"
"Shut up. I'll answer your questions silly, I'm happy to have a new friend to. I'm 10 years old, my favourite colours are red and blue, my favourite animal is a lion because they are so cute, I have brown hair, and yes I like Mexican food, my parents used to take me to get it..." I hesitated. The thought of my parents bought tears to my eyes and made the picture of their gravestone flash up in my mind. "I-I prefer Chinese food though." I finished.
Somewhere, I could feel his concern pressing in on my mind. It felt like he was frowning even when I finished my sentence. Even though I slightly seemed to lessen.
"Are you ok?"
"Yeah - yeah I'm fine." I lied. I'm an expert at lying about my feelings and the things that are going on around me. I'm very practised as I frequently lie to myself and the people around me.
"Ok." He responded even though I could tell that he didn't believe me. "Ok, I should probably go and let you get some sleep now. Goodnight PP."
"Goodnight Pool."
