Chapter Two
Spencer Reid sat across from a distraught Jasmine McDonnell. The girls copper hair was plastered to her face with tears and running mascara.
"Did you talk to Ms. Manson today?"
The girl nodded franticly. "Yes," She sniffled. " She was in class today. We studied for the AP History test together at lunch and we texted each other about the show after that. She...She told me that she was going to drop Matt off at soccer practice and come right back."
"And did anything seem off about her recently? Anything out of the ordinary? Even the smallest things can help."
The girl thought thought for a moment before shaking her head.
"No. I mean Ash is always weird, that's why we love her. But nothing out of character has happened. I mean, she blew up at Katherine Acheron yesterday for picking on a freshman but that's not too strange. Ash always stands up for people. And..and..."
Jasmine buried her head into her hands and let out a sob. Spencer let the girl collect herself in silence, waiting for her to finish.
Jasmine took a deep, shaky breath and look Dr. Reid in the eye.
"She's my best friend. She is the best person I know. Always puts others before herself. Which means if they threaten her brother, she'd do anything to protect him. It's her Achilles Heel I guess. You've got to get her back. Please."
A silent tear ran down her cheek and Spencer placed his hand over hers. Something he didn't do often.
"We will do everything we can."
Spencer watched as JJ lead the girl back to her mother. The two embraced as the Jasmine collapsed into her mother in tears.
That was part I the job he never got used to. Seeing the misery that engulfed the loved ones.
Pushing the hair from his eyes, Spencer gathered up his folders and made his way back to the conference room where the team was set up.
Ashlyn and Matthew Manson had been missing twenty-six hours and they were no closer to finding them.
He collapsed into a swivel chair in front of the board and looked up at the pictures of the two siblings. Mathews tan skin and dark hair made him look nothing like his fair skinned, blond haired sister. The only resemblance between the two were the dark, soulful green eyes.
Spencer was snapped out of his thoughts when Derek collapsed next to him.
"Did you get anything out of the best friend?" He asked.
Spencer shook his head. "She said that Ashlyn was acting perfectly normal. Well except for a fight with some other girl about bullying a freshman. Katherine Acheron? Do you think we should check her out? From the sound of it, they weren't exactly the best of friends."
"No, we talked to her at the school. She wouldn't be able to pull off something like this. Might break a nail." Derek laughed, wiggling his fingers. Spencer smiled too.
"Did you get anything out of Matthew's friend?"
Again, Derek shook his head. "The kid said the exact same thing. Matt left early for a doctors appointment and then texted him that Ashlyn was dropping him off at practice and never showed."
Spencer got up off his chair and focused on the map in front of them.
"Did they find Ashlyn's car yet?" He asked, not taking his eyes off of the map.
"Yeah. It was at a gas station a block away from the house on the corner of Cherry Street and McLain Street. Hotch and Emily are there now. Garcia is trying to get the security tapes now but they were ancient."
Spencer made a dot where the gas station was before turning to Morgan.
"But how did it go unnoticed? There was a cashier right inside, it was broad daylight, and there is a grocery store right night to the place. How did the unsub get control of two teenagers without being seen by anyone. It just doesn't make sense."
"I don't know, man. I just dont know."
