Free

The words oozed from their lips
Just like poison from a snake
I stare down, not wanting to chip
They continued, not realizing what's at stake

Each lash of their tongue brought me down
Like a whip that rips off my skin
But I won't give them the satisfaction and frown
Instead I press on a fake grin

The wounds I am forced to carry
Will not define the person that I am
Although I have become wary
Of who to ever trust again

I know the wounds will heal
Some might leave some scars
Till they search for their next meal
I will continue to reach for the stars

I struggle to survive every day
Not realizing the pain made me strong
I didn't let their words stay
Because I knew they were wrong.

I wouldn't let them break me
I would fight until I'm free
Until I can simply just be me
But I know it won't be easy.

The scars I bear will remain
And also with those who fight along with me
Let's join our hands through the pain
And end this, until everyone can be free

Free to love whoever,
Free to love whatever,
Free to love whenever.
Free to love themselves.

Let us all love each other.
Hate is never the answer.

I wrote this for a contest actually. It's what inspired me to try writing poetry here in Wattpad.
