It was just one of those days. You know, those days.
A no good, very bad, horrible terrible day.
It didn't matter where you went or who you spoke to something was wrong, a person was in a bad mood or the world would try to provoke you to get upset and turn into the same grouch others were. That wasn't who you were. You prided yourself on being level headed and kind. But, the universe was testing you today and by the end of it when you trudged back into your home, you're not sure who won.
Your alarm didn't go off this morning but thanks to your own internal clock you only woke up 10 minutes late. However, you woke up with your period and of course you stained the sheets. Stripping your bed you brought the sheets to your small laundry room spraying them quickly with a stain remover and frantically went in search of the oxygen bleach powder to make a paste and just treat the small spot on your mattress. This was no way to start your day.
Getting dressed, you rushed to do your makeup, slipped on your go to black flats and settled for a protein bar and a water bottle as you walked out your door trying desperately to make your way to the tube. But, of course there isn't enough credit on your oyster card to make your train. Taking a deep breath, you turn to add money which puts you even more behind because your train was about to pull out of the station.
The day just seemed to continue that way. As you got to work, there was a last minute meeting. Someone important was coming, so everyone went into a panic mode. Co-workers demanded you do this, called you needing advice, opinions or help for their own assignments. By 3 in the afternoon you still hadn't eaten lunch and the tension building across your shoulders and neck meant you needed caffeine and you needed it quickly. That turned into its own set of problems because the lady in front of you was disrespecting the barista so when you went to remind her of her manners, she turned that anger on you.
Leaving work the journey home was thankfully uneventful then you heard the rain as you made your way off the tube. Of course you didn't have an umbrella. You left home this morning in a rush. Before you left the station to brave the rain, you opened your Messages and texted him.
Hey, Niall. I've had a really rough and long day at work. As much as i was looking forward to tonight, i don't think i'll be able to make it. I'm really sorry. I'm sure everyone will still have fun.. Maybe we can make plans again for this weekend?
You grunted in frustration when you finally walked into your house. The rain turned into monsoon weather shortly after you left the safety of the station. The normal walk home felt like it took forever and of course your comfortable black flats were now destroyed thanks to the lake you needed to step into to cross the street.
You hated that you were canceling on Niall. You greatly enjoyed being around him the few times you two have gone out. You wouldn't even say you were dating. It was that awkward stage where you hung out with other people that were intermixed with about two dates. However, whatever test the universe was giving you, it won. You were going to change into your pajamas, lay on your couch, binge watch a tv show and wallow in self pity and misery. You had made your decision. Going to a pub for dinner and drinks with Niall's three cousins and a few other friends to watch some soccer game, or football game as they incessantly reminded you all night was just not going to happen.
Throwing your duvet back onto your fresh sheets, you heard the faint knock on your door. Confused, you made your way to answer it and became wide eyed when you looked through the peephole.
"Niall?" you questioned opening your front door in confusion. "Hey..." your voice trailing off. "What are you doing here?" Shaking your head and apologizing. I'm sorry, come on.
"Didn't you get my text?" His smile shines when he walked past.. "Told ya' id get dinner and we could just stay in." He picks up the bag in his hand. "Got Chinese.."
You feel the squeeze in your chest and you shake your head. "I haven't checked my phone. I got home and.. " Looking down at yourself feeling embarrassed. You were in flannel pajama pants and a camisole with your hair in a messy bun that was probably getting frizzy with no makeup on. "Wouldn't you rather be with everyone at the pub having fun?"
Niall puts the food down on the coffee table and shakes his head. "Nope. Wouldn't have had any fun if you weren't there, love." His smile widens. "Ya' said you had a rough day." Niall does that small shoulder shrug. "Thought i could try to salvage whats left of it."
The warmth of your cheeks let you know that you're blushing. That squeeze in your chest bursting into butterflies fluttering in your stomach. His hands find their place on your hips and looks down to catch your eyes. All the stress just dissipates as your shoulders relaxed and for the first time that day a smile spreads on your own face. "Okay. But, we're not watching soccer..."
