"Attent-hut!"

Instantly everyone in the bunker room rose and saluted.

Whatever we were doing was left on the beds and no longer mattered at this moment.

"Release!" Said Sergeant McLain.

We spread our legs apart our arms still linked behind our backs.

"Now look at of you. Excited to here from you mommies again? Your letters are here. And for the love of god! NO RITCHIE." She yelled out loud as Ritchie stepped forward to grab the letters.

It didn't quite matter to me since no one would had responded to my letters.

"How am I going to survive training you all newbies?" She muttered to herself loud enough for us to hear.

"Come out and grab you dang blasted letters when I call your name. The government is being to nice letting you guys write once a week. Back in the old days it was once every month!" She exclaimed.

One by one she started calling out to my comrades who had received written letters. For the rest of the time I stared off into space wondering how life would have been if my family was still alive.

"PRIVATE HOPKINS!" Instantly I snapped out of my thoughts and gulped as I looked at Sergeant McLain's angriest face.

"Private! Do you daydream like this all the time? You better get get your head in the game here cause I ain't going to baby you like your homies" she said.

"Yes Sergeant." I straightened my back and kept my face from blushing in embarrassment.

"Here rookie, your letter. Told you to write."

She stuck her hand out towards me holding a letter towards me.

I stared at her in awe and confusion.

Who in the world would write to me?

"PRIVATE, IF YOU'RE FRICKING DAY DREAMING AGAIN IM GOING KICK YOU INTO YOUR SENSES!" Sergeant McLain yelled.

Without a delay I grabbed the letter out of her hand and went back into positions my fingers itching to take the letter out.

Who could it possibly be?

"I'll leave it to you guys then. At 23:00 lights out and if your still awake by then you'll be working twice as hard tomorrow. Because that meant I didn't work you hard enough today. Now go read your letter!" She walks out the door not turning to look at us.

All of us quickly go to our desks and open our envelopes.

I take out the letter and read through it as my lips twitched upwards slowly.

I begin to write back.

Dear Weirdo Ava
Pleasure meeting you but first things first. I'll drop the formalities. I like how you are straight forward as well. I might as well be like that as well right?

Down to business.

Today your letter surprised me. A LOT. I was so stunned that I had stared at my Sergeant like a complete fool. You were right. In no world did I think anyone would had written back. Neither did I think that I would get in trouble from just a measly letter...

Training in the military is extreme pain. Trust me, base camp is not fun. If you don't like exercising, this is no place for you. The first week of training has wore me out to my bones.
Not much has happen so I won't write much.

Ahh I almost forgot!

1. I'm 20 years old
2. Had an older brother name Carl
3. Majored in arts
4. I also hate this war
