The sun rose over the horizon as the man woke. His day of adventuring would not be squandered by anything. Nothing perturbed him, hardly anything startled him. He was made for quests even the noblest knight could not do. The men wished to be mentored by him as women wished to be his wife, but he never allowed either as an option. He lived alone, enjoying his solitude, doing his duty if called.
A little boy walked into his house, taking a seat on a chair and watching the man. He did nothing as the boy would just watch him, not answering any question that was asked to him. The man even requested the boy to leave, but he would stay in the chair. The man finally ignored him for the rest of the day, even eating in front of him as the boy sat still, not letting his eyes off of him, but never leaving the seat.
The man started to worry, but a request came to him that very next day. The boy followed him and stayed with him, doing as he had done the day before. Once camp was set up, he sat in a spot and watched him. Not a single blink was caught by the man or his allies who were told to help him along this quest. The boy was considered an apparition, a curse upon the man from a previous man who he refused to teach. The man of course thought it too, but remembered that he touched the boy.
They traveled along, entering a dangerous area in the forest. The foul beast there waiting to be slayed as instructed. The man went first, the boy following right after. The man had not noticed this until it was too late, causing him to save the boy several times, being inflicted with the wounds he could have easily dodged. The blood smelled rancid, indicating a poison, or even an acid that was eating at his flesh. It was a few more blows later that the beast was brought down, allowing the man to cut its head clean off.
The returned, the boy behind him as his troop was worried, bringing the man to the nearest town and doctor. It was a woman who cared for him and soon noted the little boy as well. The man told her of his tale that he knew of the boy as she would stare back at him; the boy still staring with his sharp eyes.
"What is your name child?" she questioned as he sat there. "He does not speak or listen," the man replied. "But all being speak, unless they are defected," The doctor stated, soon petting the boy. The man shrugged his shoulder as he looked back at the boy, he finally blinked. The man was startled a bit. "What is the matter?" She asked as she walked over to him. "The boy blinked! I have never seen him-."
They both looked back, the boy gone as the chair was empty. The doctor soon sent a search out for the whole town to look for the missing child. The man became paranoid, and throughout the night was unable to get a good night's rest, nor did the doctor. The town had not seen the child since he entered the clinic. The two became scared for their life.
Soon the warrior returned to the king with the beast's head and was given payment. He started to leave before freezing, seeing a little page walking in, the boy who stared unrelenting at him. The king soon sent the boy off as the warrior watched in awe of the boy, turning to the king. "You know of that child?"
The king had laughed and nodded, "That is my nephew, the only heir to be the duke of your land. He wanted to be sure that all who was under him would know that he would be power across the land."
The man nodded and smiled, "He only means respect to me, and I shall be loyal to him."
