Hey everyone, this is Alyssa! This is my first ever story:). I'm good at writing but I'm not great with ideas so I may rewrite a lot of chapters. And I will not update regularly but stay with me please.
I'm not gonna sue you for stealing my characters or stories, but don't because it's really rude and not cool man. I'm sorry if my story seems similar to anyone else's; this is my story and my ideas so just notify me if something like that happens. I will try to read their story and change the plot to not match theirs. Now, without further ado, here y'all go.

(A Year Before Present Day)
Lana's P.O.V.
I pulled some cash out of the drawer from the table by the door, "Does this cover it?" I asked.
"Yes!", the pizza boy exclaimed in delight. I had pulled about $100, but it meant nothing to me to be giving him this much. "Thank you so much, but are you sure about this. This seems like an extreme amount to be giving to a pizza boy."
"You're welcome." I said and smiled as my answer.
I shut the door and slide locked it. "Jason! Pizza is here!" I shouted in the general direction of my brother.
"Coming!", he shouted back. He sauntered out of his room and flopped down on the couch. "I'll have two slices of pepperoni and one slice of meat lovers."
"I am not your personal waitress get your own food."
He mumbled something that sounded a lot like "lazy" and "good-for-nothing".
I walked to the kitchen, grabbed two plates, and walked back to the couch. I sat down next to Jason and handed him a plate, "Dig in!" I said cheerfully.
As I ate my pizza, I reflected on what had happened to us in the past month. We had moved into this spacious, three bedroom apartment after I had turned 20. On my birthday, my parents had decided that we could finally take care of ourselves and gave me this huge apartment in the middle of California while they worked on their business in Australia. They owned a multi-million dollar business that just kept growing. We had just got finished unpacking today, so we decided to celebrate with pizza.
So there Jason and I were, sitting there eating our pizza when we heard a knock at the door.
"I'll get it." I stand up and walk over to the door. Sliding the chain over, I open it. I was met by a man in a police uniform.
"Hello ma'am, I am here on the behalf of Lana and Jason Holland's parents. Are you Lana?"
"Uh yes, that's me." I replied.
"Good, I'm Detective Carter."
Jason stood up and walked over. "Hello, I'm Jason. What's going on?"
"Please, sir and ma'am," he said. "Come with me."
Jason looked a little unsure, but since the man was an officer, he eventually agreed. "Okay, let's go." he started out the door.
I followed wordlessly behind, wondering what had happened to make the detective come to our door.
As we were walking out of the building, I spotted a homeless lady shuffling toward me. I quickly grabbed a twenty out of my pocket and handed it to her.
She smiled and I returned it. I felt so sad when I saw people on the side of the road without a home, but that doesn't mean that I suddenly wanted to be any closer to them. I rushed to the car so that the detective would give me some info sooner as to what was happening. Opening the door, I slid in next to my brother and slammed it closed.
The officer turned around in his seat, "I am deeply sorry that I have to give you this news. I know that it's going to be one of the hardest things that you'll ever go through. I'm also sorry that you have to hear it from some random officer that showed up at your door."
I turned and stared at Jason wondering what he could possibly be going on about. What could be so bad that he had an entire prologue planned before he could tell us?
The detective just kept rambling on, so finally Jason decided to stop him from continuing any longer, "Dude, just tell us what happened. You're majorly wasting our time with your pointless rambling."
"Oh, uh sorry. Well...uh. Your parents were heading to a business meeting yesterday morning..."
"And?" I was so tired of this guy already. My parents go to meetings 24/7, how was this one any different?
"A drunk driver swerved out of his lane and hit them head on. Forensics says they died on contact." He turned back around in his seat and stared at us warily through the rear-view mirror.
I was speechless. How could this have happened? Our parents could not be dead; that's impossible. They were owners of a huge company. Someone as powerless and meaningless as a drunk could not just take them away.
Officer Carter continued to just stare, "Are you two okay back there? We need to start heading to the station, the detectives and lawyers will have many more questions for you. They just wanted me to tell you on the way so that you'd be able to process it before you arrived." With our silence as his answer, he started the car and began to pull into traffic.
I was somehow able to feel anger swell up over my shock at his rudeness. How could we be okay? Our parents had just died and left us with nothing but their money. Our dad has only one sibling, a brother, and my mom was an orphan. What were we going to do? I can't believe that this could really be happening right now...
