Jess's POV:

I feel hot tears well up into my eyes as I sprint toward the cars. I hear sirens rumble up behind me and Augustus grabs my arm from behind.

"Jess, let them handle it. We can go to the hospital."

I stand staring at the scene as medics run with their gear toward the accident. I look back at Gus with wide eyes and slowly nod my head. I follow close behind as we make our way back to the car. I slide in the seat and close the door as 1000 thoughts rush through my head. Is my mom okay? What is going to happen? Could we possibly get to the hospital any slower?

I can tell Gus is driving as fast as he can, but I still manage to leak a few tears. We pull up in front of the hospital and he leans over to look at me. He eyes are filled with worry and nervousness.

"It will be okay Jess, please don't cry." he says wiping away my extra tears and then pulling me in for a warm hug.

We make our way into the hospital, but the doctors aren't ready for us to see her yet. As a result, I end up pacing back and forth in the waiting room while Gus sits and watches me.

"Can you please stop that? Your making me even more nervous than I already am." he snaps at me.

I just roll my eyes and slump down in the chair next to him. He wraps an arm around my waist and looks down at the ground. About a half hour later, a man in scrubs enters the room and looks straight at where we are sitting.

"Are you two here for Mrs. Collins?" he asks us.

"Yes." We both reply at the same time standing up.

"Come with me."

We arrive to a white room wiht blue curtains and my mom lays in a bed positioned right in the middle of the room. She looks up and smiles at me.

"Hey mom. You scared me half to death, what happened?" I ask running up and giving her a big hug.

She squeezes me back before answering. "Honey, I'm alright. I was just coming back from lunch and this guy ran a red light and hit me head on. I've just got a broken leg, a few bruises, and a minor concussion. The hospital is going to keep me overnight to make sure my concussion doesn't get any worse. Oh! Hello Augustus!" she says getting distracted from her story.

"Hi Mrs. Collins, I'm glad to hear you're doing better." he says to her with a smile.

"You gave us quite a scare there mom, we saw it happen. I'm just glad you are okay." I whisper.

"I'm fine Jess. They called your father, he said he would be over after work at around 6:30." she replies to me.

We end up staying at the hospital and hanging out with my mom until the hospital's visiting hours are up at around 9:00. We got dinner with my dad in the cafeteria earlier and now I feel as though I might pass out. The events of today have been very tiring and at this point I just want to curl up and sleep for 100 years.

Gus drives back toward our houses, but he doesn't take me home. He takes me to his house.

"I figured that a sleepover would do you some good after today's events." Augustus says to me before exiting the car and making his way to my side. He opens the door and picks me up bridal style and takes me into the house. I'm guessing his parents are already in bed because the house is dark downstairs.

When we get up to his room, he throws me a pair of grey sweatpants and an oversized t shirt.

"Here, you can borrow these for the night." he says to me. I go into the bathroom to change and when I come out he starts laughing at me. He is much bigger than I am, so his clothes pretty much hang off of me. I walk over and playfully shove hiis shoulder before climbing in next to him.

He wraps his arms around my waist and buries his head in my hair.

"It's been one heck of a day Jess, get some sleep." he whispers to me before kissing the top of my head and nuzzling his head into my shoulder. I feel a smile creep onto my face before I drift to sleep.
