The Little Things

Life. Life is something everyone takes for granted. People don't understand that the little things in life are the most important and the most memorable. They look for bigger and better things, but what they really should be looking for are the little things that matter.

Today, I sit in my backyard and look at the delicate butterfly. As it gently lands on the pink, prepossessing flower that lies just beside me, I remember watching my sister gracefully run around, desperately wanting to catch a butterfly. It didn't matter what it looked like. She just wanted a butterfly.

Today,  I sit in my bedroom and remember when my siblings softly tip-toed into my room and tried to sleep by my side because a monster was to live beneath thier bed. I made them feel safe. I made them feel secure. What they didn't know was that they were the ones who made me feel secure and safe.

Today, I sit here and smile. I smile because those little things in life, are what makes up my life.  See, my sister may have not caught that butterfly she desperately wanted, but she never gave up. My siblings may have been scared of that green, red eyed monster that was to live under their bed, but they came to someone who made them feel safe. Fear is what was to take control of them, but in a few months they sleep calmly in their own bed and overcome their fear.

Clearly, what I am trying to get across is that those little things in life that people don't take time to appreciate are the things that give you the lessons your parents try to glue into your mind.

My name is Claire, and I have three weeks to enjoy those little things in life before death takes ahold of me.
