Chapter Eight: Safety

It had almost been a month since Matilda bumped into Christopher and now she stands in her now empty room. A few pieces of large furniture still stand pushed into one corner. Matilda throws her duffle bag over her shoulder and makes her way outside where Lucas is in his car with all her stuff. "Aren't you going to say goodbye to us?" Hermione asks crossing her arms across her chest. Matilda smiles and wraps her arms around her aunt's waist. Hermione kisses the top of Matilda's head then lifts her head so Matilda is looking at her. "You will always be welcome. Please come to me if you need me." Hermione says Matilda hugs her tighter.

"I'll miss living with you." Matilda says into Hermione's neck.

"I will too." Hermione laughs.

"Give me my daughter back." Charlie jokes.

"She first gets a hug from her favourite uncle." Bill says stretching his arms out. Matilda smirks and hugs her uncle. "I'll miss you. It's becoming very quite in the house." Bill says giving Matilda a sad smile. Matilda gets on her tiptoes kisses her uncle's cheek.

"Now it's my turn." Charlie pushes Bill away playfully. Matilda laughs and Hermione roles her eyes.

"Good luck." Matilda says to Hermione jokingly. They all laugh.

"My little blue eyed baby." Charlie says melancholically.

"Dad, stop." Matilda protests as Charlie's eyes glass over with tears. "If you cry I will too."

"Sorry, sweetie. It's just hard to see you leave." Charlie chokes.

"I am a twenty minute car ride away." Matilda states hugging Charlie. "Stop being a drama queen."

Charlie chuckles. "I love you." Matilda smiles and shakes her head and pulls out the keys to the house. "Keep them." Charlie says as he closes her hand around them. "You are always welcome here even when we are not home. And when we all go on vacation you can house sit and check up on things. Just keep the keys."

Matilda smiles and hugs her dad again. "I'll miss seeing you everyday." She then walks out of the house and gets into the car.

"Ready?" Lucas asks patting her thigh.

Matilda nods her head. "Yeah." She waves at the three adults as they drive away.

Matilda walks into Krum's office for the uncountable time for her private training. She was warm from her regular training and lessons small beads of sweat lingering on her forehead. "Ahhhh, Miss. Scamander." Krum says without looking up from his papers. "Go freshen up we aren't training today we are doing some classic learning." Matilda gets up and goes to the locker rooms at Auror headquarters. Where she takes a quick shower and puts on some smart pants and a blouse. She then walks back as she pulls her short hair into a ponytail. "Let's start. Just like in regular Auror lessons we will be working on reading your target when undercover and in interrogation however we are going to go deeper into that topic because I want to train you to be in the Order of Merlin."

"What?" Matilda's jaw drops.

"You heard me. I am going to train you to not only be an Auror but also and Order of Merlin agent. Therefore your people reading skills have to be twice as good. So as a lesson plan the next couple of months will be undercover and people skill lessons. Combat wise magical and muggle you are now top of your class and can take me on without a problem hence we move on." Krum explains as he walks to the white board in his office and starts writing down things to look out for when interrogating a target when still undercover. "I had already put your name forward to the Order of Merlin after your first interview." He turns towards Matilda. "I know you are going to great things."
