All you can remember from last night was Asahi. The way his sweat fell down his face didn't seem gross or weird, unlike how Noya used to wipe his sweat on your own volleyball towel a while back. That was gross. You eventually just gave it to him. You hold onto his jacket walk into school. You tried offering it back to him last night, but he told you to wear it to not catch a cold on the way back home. It was sweet. "Why are you blushing?" Noya said as he met you at the corner you two have always met at. "Oh, nothing." You two walk in silence for a bit till he asked about the jacket. You explain why Asahi let you wear it. Noya tried to take it from you to give to Asahi after school at practice. You were thankful but a gut feeling made you want to see Asahi again. "Hello, lovebirds." Tanaka came up from behind and put his arms around you and Noya. You guys were used to his jokes. He thought you and Noya looked good together. "I don't date people shorter than me," you comment aiming your fire at Noya. He wasn't that much shorter, only a few centimeters. He shot you a look. "I don't date my friend's lover." "What are you talking about?" you are now very suspicious. "You're holding his jacket..." "ME AND ASAHI AREN'T TOGETHER!" You screamed a bit too loud. Tanaka was taken aback but laughed. "I want to see that, I think Asahi will date you." "Stop guys," you say getting a bit serious, tempted to hit one of them to protect Asahi. What were you thinking? Your first thought was to protect Asahi rather than to stop them from annoying you. You guys walk into the school and you put Asahi's jacket in his locker. The only reason you know which one it is is because you have seen Tanaka go to it before when putting candy in it because he was sick. They were good friends like that. You would give it to him personally but you would never really see him. As the day goes on you can't stop thinking about Asahi. You want him to burst into the class and take you away from these mundane classes. You find yourself imagining him with you in other situations. Most of them involve volleyball. The passes, the digs, the sets, the kills... you craved it with him. The feel of strategized imperfection. That is what volleyball really is. You practice all these plays and perfect form and places but when you reach the court you play to keep the ball in motion and all the perfect plays you practiced just become numb while you fight for your chance to get one of those three touches. This is no perfect bump to the setter so they can set to a spiker and not every set will be right to the spiker's hand. You practice volleyball plays but will never have the exact plays. Strange... or amazing. The school day ends and you head to the bathroom. You notice a strange paper in your bag. You reach in and grab it. It was Noya's test, graded, not even that bad of a grade. You realize he must have accidentally let it fly off of his desk. Lots of papers did. He didn't mind, remembering the time you told him the first year that the papers flying away represented how the spiker flew away to hit the ball so perfectly. He also didn't care to keep track of them. You decide to go give it to him during his practice. As you walk to the gym you notice the shoes in the holder outside. All perfect in the small squares except for those two first years who always rush into practice to get started quickly. You wait to walk in till they went for a drink break. You step inside quickly and some people notice you but you just wanted to give Noya the paper and leave. Noya sees you and heads towards you. He sees something out of the corner of his eye and looks back at you worried. He motions you out of the way. You look to where he was as you see another ball heading straight for you. This time you reacted. You push our arms out and swing around quickly. You notice how good your platform and form are as you receive the ball coming right at you. The ball goes up, high and perfect. Suga runs under it and sets it to Daichi. Daichi hits it just from the back, no fancy jump or form. Suga and Daichi laugh and Noya starts to laugh too, after assessing that you are alright from a distance. Asahi comes over, shocked. "Tha-That was an amazing pass, I didn't know you played. Sorry for the ball hit at you... again." His cheeks grew red the longer he stared at you. "It's fine," you say covering up any sort of spill of emotion. You can't just go falling under this third year's spell. He bows toward you in an apology and then walks back to get a drink. Noya walks up and you hand him his test then head home. Hiroko called you once you got home and talked your ear off till you fell asleep.
Asahi's POV~ (Next day)
"Asahi!" Daichi called from down the hall. "Hey, what's up?" You say. "What's that second year's name? Nishinoya's friend." "Uh, I think (y/n)." Daichi thought about it for a moment, then continued saying "So... Are you going to invite them to the next game?" "Daichi, don't tell me your crushing on a second year." A surge of anger ran through you. You don't understand why Daichi just made you so furious. "No, but you are." Daichi smiled a smile that seemed sweet but felt evil. "I do not like them like that." "Uh huh," Daichi nodded slowly "You can't tell me that you don't like them, they are literally a ball magnet for you. We could all see you get red whenever you look at them, Asahi." You can feel your face go red. You also felt angry they are watching you and (y/n) like that. How dare they speak (y/n)'s name. "It's not like that." You finally say. Daichi smiles then walks away. You glance out the window and see Noya, (y/n), Kiyoko, Tanaka, and another girl who was bouncing around annoyingly. The look on (y/n) face made you feel bad. A gut feeling told you to go and push everyone else away from (y/n) to let them be safe with you.
