One Normal Day

(Tabitha POV)

I woke up to loud knocking outside my door. I sat up just in time to see Caroline come bursting through the door, "Wake up, Sleeping Beauty, it's time to seize the day. Although it is a shame we have school."

I sighed, "No offence, Caroline, but I'm not feeling too well."

"Oh come on, I know you feel bad about your uncle, but we can have one normal day, right?"

I smiled, rolling the thought over in my head, "One normal day, you know I think that's exactly what the doctor ordered."

Caroline flashed one of her award-winning smiles, "Perfect! Now get in the shower while I pick out and outfit for you from my clothes. Mom says we can go get your clothes after school."

I nodded and did as I was told. After putting on the outfit Caroline picked out, I styled my hair and did my makeup. I stared at myself in the mirror, taking a couple calming breaths, "One normal day. One normal day. You can do this."

I stepped out of the bathroom and posed in front of Caroline, who was sitting on the bed. She smiled, clapping, "Truly the perfect outfit for the Harvest Queen."

I chuckled, "Thanks Care. Let's go and strut our stuff at school."

She looped her arm in mine, "I couldn't agree more."

We got to school and I went through the motions of the day. I hadn't felt this free since the first day of school. It was refreshing being mundane and boring. It was perfect until I saw Stefan, "Hey Tabitha."

I was switching out my books and frowned, "What do you want Stefan, I thought you didn't go to school anymore."

"I don't I just need you to do something for me."

"And why would you think I would help you? You knocked me out and shoved me in Elena's car!"

"I was trying to protect you, once you kill someone, that pain will haunt you forever."

I scoffed, "Well then, consider me cursed. After you saved Caroline, I tracked down Logan and killed him myself. Now if you don't mind, I'm trying to have one normal day. Goodbye Stefan."

I closed my locker and shoved past the vampire, heading to my next class. I figured it was about Elena, considering I hadn't seen her at all today. I rounded the corner and dialed her number. "Hello?"

"Call your damn boyfriend before he throws off my groove. I don't care where you are or what you two are fighting about, but I'm trying to enjoy one normal day. You either need to call him or answer when he calls you back, do you understand?"

"Okay, I'm sorry, I will."

"Thank you, goodbye Elena," I hung up and took a calming breath, "Normal day. Shake it off."

I finished the day and smiled seeing Caroline run off to the Grill with Matt to play pool. I knew they would be good for each other. I made my way to my house, gathering my clothes, before heading back to the Forbes residence and sat in silence, trying to ignore the horrible thoughts creeping into my head.

No matter how much I tried to play it off, I was a killer. Even before Logan became a vampire, I had stabbed Damon in the heart. I showed remorse, but the fact remained that I was willing to kill to protect the ones I loved. And I hated it.

I didn't truly want to hurt anyone, but in the heat of the moment, it's them or the ones I love. How did Damon do it? How did Damon live with the killing? How did Stefan? Was it the switching off of the humanity that Lexi told me about?
