The wind blew softly as the brunette pedalled her bike along the uneven street of Indiana. Her hands gripping the handle bars tightly, careful not to ride over sharp rocks. As expected, her small yellow house came into view. Millie noticed that there were no cars in the driveway. Typical. Her parents were never home. Millie practically raised herself.

Pedaling into her driveway, Millie hopped off of her vintage looking bike and walked it to the side of her house, using her covered toes to push the kick stand down. The brunette started to make her way into the house, before she heard a voice call out her name.

"Hey, Mills!"

Whipping her head around, Millie noticed the familiar red head walking onto her lawn, making her insides tingle with erupting butterflies.

"Sadie", Millie gave her a light smile as she pushed a strand of hair behind her ear.

Millie had always had a crush on her neighbor Sadie. They had known each other for nearly half of their lives. Millie could recall the day where she first moved to America and she needed help carrying boxes into the house because her parents ran off to an emergency meeting somewhere. Sadie was there to help and Millie swore that the first time she laid eyes on the blue eyed, freckled girl, she was intrigued.

"-maybe we could go together?"

Millie snapped out of her trance, staring at Sadie in pure confusion. "I'm sorry, what?"

Sadie playfully rolled her eyes, "I said that Caleb is throwing a party tomorrow. Maybe we could go together?"

Millie's face dropped at the sound of Caleb's name. Caleb was Sadie's boyfriend...well, he made it clear that if anyone touched her, they would surely get sucker punched in the face. Millie hated him. He made Sadie cry all the time, leaving Millie to comfort her. Millie even questioned Sadie about why she even associated herself with him, but the answer was the same every time: I don't know.

"Caleb's a dick, Sadie. No way, I'm not going", Millie shook her head as Sadie pouted, taking a step forward.

"Please? I know he's a dick, but I don't want to go alone...", Sadie pleaded with her soft blue eyes, making Millie look away momentarily. "We can leave as soon as you feel uncomfortable, okay?"

Millie bit the inside of her cheek and nodded lightly, "Okay."

Sadie smiled and placed a friendly kiss on Millie's cheek, causing the brunette to freeze up.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Mills", Sadie winked as she walked back over to her house.

Millie lifted her hand and used her thumb to caress over the spot where Sadie's lips once touched. A smile laid on her lips as she slowly opened the door to her empty house and walked in.

Millie shut the door to her locker after she placed her books inside. She walked through the crowds of people, trying not to get stomped on by the giant seniors who passed her. In the distance, she noticed her other friend Lilia who was just walking out of the bathroom.
