It all started with a normal summer day. My hair still would not cooperate. My boyfriend had just broken up with me, and there were tear tracks on my face. I was walking home from the mall with my best friend when I saw, or rather, heard it. A low buzzing. I looked around and saw what was making the noise. Something yellow and black with flashes of white.
"Hey wait up, Becky, what's that?" My friend stopped and looked toward where I was staring. Then it started coming toward us. I realized what it was.
"Becky! We gotta run and hide, quick!" I exclaimed with a great sense of urgency.
"No we don't, it's probably just a plane or something dressed up for Halloween."
"Becky, it's Summer, and even if it were a plane, we should still run because it's coming straight toward us!" By now the three foot tall Beedrill was so close, I could see the giant stingers and each stripe on its body.
"Yep, I think we should run!" Becky started panicking and running directly toward it. I quickly grabbed her and steered her in the right direction. We were quick, but the Beedrill was quicker. We made it about ten feet before Becky stopped, a giant white cone protruding through her chest, blood dripping down her belly, her mouth agape and her eyes bulging and rolling back into her head, tears flowing down her face. The Beedrill took off with my best friend limply dangling from its arm stinger.
"NOOOO" I howled as I sank to my knees and curled up in a ball, adding even more tears to the tracks I already had, crying "Becky was so sweet and innocent, why her, why her?" crying out in horror. My best friend was dead! I pleaded to the universe that this was all a dream, and tried pinching myself and it hurt. Of course I couldn't be that lucky. Wait, if Beedrill are around, then there'll probably be other, more dangerous Pokemon. I quickly got up and surveyed my surroundings, the adrenaline rushing through me. I had to be on the lookout as I searched for a place to hide. Plus, the Beedrill might come back. I shuddered at the thought of looking down and seeing a stinger protruding from my chest. Before I do anything, I have to find out where these Pokemon are coming from. I started walking home and, luckily, ran into no more Pokemon. While walking, I noticed that there was the smell of smoke in the air. I followed the smell to a building in the forest that I had never noticed before, even though it was pretty close to my house. I went inside to find a lot of broken glass and a couple of panels with the lights still on, and some corpses (ew) collapsed all throughout the building. I moved on to the next room where it was mostly white. In the middle there was a glass dome with something floating inside and a note that said "In case of disaster, Take Me and Catch 'em All" I cleared away some of the grime covering the glass and was filled with delight as soon as I realized what it was.
"Oh My Gosh!" I nearly screamed "It's an original Gameboy!" Suddenly, it hit me. If my theory wasn't mistaken, I had to catch all the Pokemon and then they would go away with each Pokemon I caught. I switched on the Gameboy and was greeted by the familiar look of Pokemon Red. Pressing the start button made me feel a little woozy and I sat down. I tried to let go of the Gameboy, but I was stuck. What is happening? Suddenly, I felt like I was floating and my vision plunged into darkness. Slowly the light came back and I was standing in front of Professor Oak! I couldn't speak. Have I somehow been transported into the game? Professor Oak started to ask all the normal questions for starting a Pokemon journey. I still couldn't speak, so he just asked the question and moved on, not waiting for an answer. He also explained that I had to encounter a Pokemon in real life and then capture it on the device. He never asked me what my starter Pokemon would be... I was whisked back to my own world and woke up with a start. Ooookay, that was a bit weird. I ran out of the building with the Gameboy and a book I picked up in tow. I now knew that the world rested on my shoulders.
