Twilight (Quil and Claire)

Chapter 8

~Quil's POV~

Jacob's scream broke the silence. He would scream from the pain. The pain caused by the stupid bloodsuckers.

He gasped for air silencing the scream. The re-breaking of his bones lasted forever.

Billy would hold his breath everytime Jacob screamed.

I sat on the porch rocking back and forth on my heels. Embry sat aross from me, looking at his feet.

Seth sat on the bench with Leah standing over him. Jared paced back and forth, kicking the pebbles.

Jacob's loud scream made Embry jump.

They would re-break a bone every couple minutes.

We would all prepare ourselves.

Bella pulled up in her truck about thirty minutes later. She jumped out and ran up to us. I stood up and leaned against the house. Embry turned so that he faced Bella.

"Hey. Is-". Bella gasped. Jacob's deafening scream made Bella knees wobble.

Sue grabbed her arm to balance her. Bella's face was frozen with a horrified look. Carlisle opened the door.

He stepped out with Sam right behind him. My nose cringed as the smell of vampire reached me.

"The worst is over. I gave him some morphine, but his body will burn that off soon. I'll come back in the morning to set up a drip", Carlisle announced.

Carlisle walked towards the woods, but Billy stopped him. They stared at each other for minute. "Thank you", Billy told him and offered him his hand.

Carlisle nodded and shook hands. Carlisle looked over at Bella. "He's asking for you". Bella nodded.

Carlisle zoomed off into the woods. Bella looked at Billy for the 'ok'.

Billy nodded and Bella ran past me to go see Jake.

After about ten minutes, Bella came out. "I'm sorry, Billy", she said.

Billy nodded and headed for the house. Sam helped Billy in the house.

Sam came back out and went over to Emily. He grabbed his arms around her and kissed her all over her face.

Once he got to the lips, they held their lips together. I looked away, not wanting to see what they do next.

Billy came back out. "He's sleeping, but y'all can go see him", Billy said.

Embry and I walked into his room to see him. Seth followed us.

He was wrapped in gauze. Sweat was dripping off him and he had a frown on his face. Paul walked in after us.

We heard a car pull up. "What happened?" asked a voice. Kim.

Jared probably wouldn't come in here because he would want to comfort Kim.

We stared at Jake for about five minutes. Paul left to go see Rachel, who was suppose to be coming back for a break from college tonight.

Billy and Jake were also suppose to go meet her at the airport, but I don't think Billy wants to leave Jake.

Seth, Embry, and I left shortly after Paul did. Seth and Leah went home with their mom, Sue, and Embry and I phased and ran home.

We lived five minutes away from each other. When I got home, my mom ran over to me.

She squeezed me, even though I barely felt it. She stared up at me with wondering eyes. "Aren't you gonna tell me what happened?". She knew me to well. She knew something happened.

"Jake... his...". "What?" "The right half of his body is shattered", I said quietly.

"Oh no! Is he ok?"

"Yeah....he's in a lot of pain, but he'll pull through".

"Oh...ok good. I'm glad you're alright".

"Yeah".

"Do you want to eat something?",she asked.

"No, I think I want to go see if Embrys ok." I replied.

"Ok...but don't be to long", she requested.

"Yeah".

I ran out the door. The rain started to pour down hard. I took my clothes off and placed them on the ground.

I phased and grabbed my clothes with my mouth, trying not to bite down so I wouldn't tear them.

I ran towards Embry's house and got there in one minute. I decided to phase back into a human instead of getting him in trouble for leaving without permission again.

I put my clothes back on and walked up to the door. His mom answered with a concerned look on her face.

"Where's Embry?" she asked before I could say anything.

"Wait.... he's not here?" I asked her back.

"No.... he never came home. He told me he went to the beach with you and Jake". Crap, he pinned this on me and Jake.

"He must still be with Jake. They went back to his house", I said trying to make up a believable lie.

"Oh..ok, well if you see him tell him to come home", she said.

I nodded and ran back to the woods.
