Willow looked at the man next to her. Their hands intervened together, as they walked along the aisles of the supermart. She watched him talk nonstop about the football game last week. Luke was a star athlete in the school team. He was their best player. Along with his extraordinary skills, he was gifted with the handsomeness of a Greek god. Towering 6 feet tall his lean, athletic figure was no match to his black hair and green eyes. "My mom has green eyes" He proudly says this everytime someone compliments his beautiful eyes. She was lost in those sparkling gems when we suddenly came to a halt. Luke's grip on Willow tightened as she turned her head to the front.
Naomi! Now that's a name she can never forget. Naomi is the one who broke Luke's heart by leaving him for another bastard. Now that she knows what a player he was, Naomi has plotted her way back into Luke's life. This was how it all started, why Luke was holding her hand. Why they were walking around like a couple. Like didn't want to give up so easily. He loved Naomi to the extent that to him Naomi didn't break his heart. Before Naomi left him, she said she was leaving because of Luke. "you don't know how to be a boyfriend. All day you run next to me like a lost puppy. That's not the kind of man I want. " those were her exact words that day. Willow was in the next room but she heard everything she said. She practically screamed at his face and left.
For a few weeks, he wallowed in his room and did not even see anyone. After that he came out looking like a whole new person, oozing with self confidence. That's when he told Willow his plan. He had been planning this in his room for all this time. He wanted Willow to be his pretend-girlfriend so that Naomi will be jealous and come begging for him. Willow, being his best friend for 15 years couldn't say no to him. She didn't have anything holding her back from helping him. She hadn't been in a relationship for over an year. When they came hand in hand on the first day of the new semester, their friends were surprised. Both of them filled their friends on it and they followed suit, spreading stories of their romance. Ever since then they have been together for the whole world to see.
Luke's grip tightened to a dangerous level that Willow felt like circulation to the fingers would be cut off. She tip-toed and whispered into Luke's ears "You will fine. Remember we had practice for over 2 months of summer break. You can do this". She turned Luke around to make it seem like Willow was kissing his cheeks. As she dropped down, she felt Naomi's stare. Willow spoke in a sweet voice that she herself wanted to throw up "hey Naomi. How was the summer break? Did your extra week help you with that tan?". Naomi was a week late for the new semester. She didn't even give me a glance as she stared at Luke. "what is this Luke? I leave you for a few months and you move on?" she acted well placing a hand on her chest as if her heart was the one that broke. Like spoke back "We broke up Naomi. You left me. Of course I moved on". Naomi let out a squeal before answering "You blocked my number how was I supposed to contact you. We broke up before too but got back every time. Why different now?". Before Luke could answer, Willow intervened. "Cause he realized what a bitch you are. You treated him like trash. He doesn't deserve you".Willow was cut short by Luke who grabbed her arm and marched out of the supermart. He stopped when they got to the car and let go off her hands.
"Why did you say that? That was insensitive " Luke said. Willow stared in disbelief. She realized she should have known. Willow thought that after a while Luke would start hating Naomi after realizing how toxic their relationship was but guess he loves her more than that. Naomi was still fueled from the adrenaline rush she had back inside. "You will never realize it won't you. Well fuck Naomi and fuck you too" with that she turned around and started running. She could hear Luke shouting her name but she ignored and ran. She ran for a long time before coming to a halt, panting and gasping for air. As her heart rate and breathing started to stabilize, she took in her surrounding. She was standing in her favourite spot ever since she was a kid. It was a secluded area in the Central Park. Trees and flowers surrounded her as she kneeled down on the green grass. Her hands cupped her face as she cried into it.
For the upteenth time she wondered how she was going to survive for the next few months. She had thought of Luke as her best friend and confidante for all these years. After she started helping Luke something stirred inside of her. She felt the warmth everytime they held hands or Luke held her in an embrace. She felt something else when Luke kissed her for the first time. It was around 2 weeks ago. They had been going through the plan together when Luke had suggested that they kiss for practice. She obliged but never thought it would be the beginning of another mind vs heart battle. They spent more time together than before going on dates to strengthen their back story. To willow it felt like she was dating Luke. To Luke it was just a means to get Naomi back. He wanted her to suffer before he took her back. Wonder where he got hat idea from. A movie or a book maybe. Now she was hopelessly in love with him.
