i wait until i am certain my parents are asleep and climb out my window with my backpack on, thankful that we dont live in a two story house, the ground is merely four feet away, easy to get in and out of. i make sure to put something in between the sill to keep it open and run off to the alleyways. its past curfew which is at eleven p.m. so of course, police are roaming to make sure nobody is out, theyre only out until twelve a.m. two minutes away and the walk to the abandoned pool is two miles away in the next town over. when i get there, i rush to the back of the pool and take out my flashlight, looking at where the fence has been cut open from when other teens get in. i climb down the ladder to get in the pool, nearly gagging at the smell of animal feces mixed with old water puddles. i walk to the cleanest side of the pool, ironically also the deepest side and look at all the graffiti on the cracked walls of the pool.
"fuck." i whispered as i heard footsteps.
i stood still and saw a flashlight hit the wall of the pool where it reeked. i turned on my flashlight as whoever it was, climbed down the ladder and aimed it at them.
"get that light out of my face." they whispered loud enough so i can hear them.
"oh, its just you." i said, letting out a sigh of relieve, "i thought you were the cops."
"i could have as well been a murderer and your dumbass shone that light in my face." he says.
"what are you doing here?" i ask.
"i could ask you the same thing. whats with the backpack?" he asked.
"you know why they abandoned this place right?" i asked.
"someone died here. shit, youve got a ouija board, dont you?" he asks.
"youre smart, arent you?" i ask.
"not that it concerns you." he says.
"how old are you?" i ask.
"nineteen. thats as much as you will ever get out of me." he says, "how old are you?"
"eighteen. that is as much as you will ever get out of me as well." i say.
"you werent planning on playing on that board alone, were you?" he asks.
"no actually. i was hoping the demon would join me." i say sarcastically.
"well, are we going to play or not?" he asks as he sits down.
i sit down across from him and pull the ouija board out of my backpack and place it in front of us. we place our hands on the planchette and do the whole phrase.
"is anybody here?" i ask.
we both wait for the planchette to move but nothing happens.
"they probably dont like you." he jokes, then i move the planchette to spell out f ... u ... c ... k ... y ... o ... u...
"youre funny." he says sarcastically.
"its a gift." i smile, "you ask, obviously you think the demons would like you more. they probably would, wouldnt they?"
"shut the fuck up. is anybody here?" he asks, again the planchette doesnt move, "this whole thing is bullshit."
we remove our hands from the board, saying goodbye just in case and i walk over to the gross side of the pool and leave it in there.
"wanna just get drunk?" i ask when i walk back.
"as much as i would, id probably open up too much and would want to kill myself." He smiles.
