May 9th, 2011
The air smelled off spring turning summer. The perfect balance of sunshine to wind making the day one which would be looked back on with fondness in later years. Despite the perfect day the park remaind majoritivly empty. Only two kids were playing there.
One was a boy who had yet to turn 13 and become a teenager officially. He looked as if he had been running and playing all day, which he had, his knees scrapped and his shorts covered with dirt. He stood at the top of the slide watching a girl fly down giggling and laughing.
The girl was young, a year younger to be percise, her hair trimmed short to keep her cool during these hot months. She looked equally if not more dirty, the cute outfit her mother had picked for her now covered in marks; Her white socks turned brown in spots, and even ripped to reveal cuts and scrapes. The girl landed softly in the sand below the slide and before she even had the chance to stand, the boy came tumbling down. He landed on her with a thud, laughter exploding from them as she playfully flung some sand at him.
They were best friends then. Closer than anyone their age. Still childish in nature, yes, but growing up quickly and together all the same. The hours passed by and they went from the park, to the girls house, to the backyard where they now sat. The two had crawled into a small space they claimed as their own back when they where younger. It had seemed much bigger then but now the two fit just barely. They talked about many things in that space. Mainly growing up, and being idols or actors, things they wanted to happen so quickly. They didn't even think about being teenagers or falling in love, they wanted to grow up fast and live life fast.
But then the girl asked a question that the boy could have never prepared for.
"Minho... What happens when we die?"
The girl wasn't looking at him, but at the barely visible sky that hung above their tiny space. He was silent for a moment, a memory of what he had been told so long ago reserfeced for the very first time in a very long time.
" You forget everything. "
He looked at her and watched her movements, watched the way her pretty lips curved into a frown at his words, the way her hair framed her face as she moved. The way she furrowed her brow as she thought about her next words.
"Even you?"
The girls mouth felt dry as she looked at him, waiting for a response. Minho let his head sink onto his knees as he nodded slightly.
"Yes Y/N even me."
She didnt like that answer. Y/N felt tears sting her eyes as she looked a Minho, who put on an unphased persona. The younger girl gripped his hand suddenly causing him to look up at her in curiosity, her voice trembled a bit as she spoke.
" Promise me you'll never forget me?"
Minho was silent, looking at the girls features, taking them in. He saw the fear and pain in her eyes, he didn't want her to be scared. The boy squeezed her hand tightly, a small reassuring smile appearing on his lips.
"I promise, I will never forget"
Y/N smiled feeling the small bit of fear in her chest disappear. She gave his hand one last squeeze before she let go and turned her head up to the sky. The blue was gone, replaced by a pinkish-orange and purple.
The two crawled out at the call of their names from Minho's mother. The two were unaware of what fate they had sealed. The two were unaware of the responsibility they had thrown upon their future selves. May 9th, 2011 Y/N and Minho fated themselves to forget.
