"Ahhhh!!!" Jade screamed as she woke with a start. Jade's mother rushed in, like she did every night when Jade's nightmares began. "It's okay, he's gone. He can't hurt you anymore baby." Jade's mother whispered as she tried to soothe her terrified fifteen year old daughter. "He's gonna find me, Momma. He's gonna find me and kill them because I told on him." Jade whispered, her voice hoarse from all the screaming. "No, honey, he won't find you. I won't let him take my baby girl." Jade's mother said. Jade disagreed silently, knowing her mother would try to stop him, but wouldn't succeed because of what he was. A monster. And in her experience, the monster always gets what he wants.
The next morning, Jade's best friend, Lexi, came over. Lexi took one look at Jade and knew she had another of her horrible nightmares. "Jade, I've brought you something. It might help with your nightmares." Lexi said. Jade sighed. "Nothing will help my nightmares, Lexi. They're my problem for life." Jade said softly. "Just try it, for me, will ya?" Lexi asked. Jade nodded reluctantly, knowing that Lexi's newest attempt would end just like her last. A failure.
"Well, here. This CD is for you." Lexi mumbled as she held it out towards her friend. "Thanks." Jade mumbled. Lexi watched as Jade looked at the CD, doubt written plainly across her face. "One Direction? How could they possibly help with my nightmares? They're just a boy band." Jade asked. "Just a boy band? Why, One Direction is the best boy band." Lexi said indignantly. Jade giggled and surrendered. "Okay, okay. I'll see if they really are the best like you claim. Don't blame me when I don't start singing their praises though." Jade said. "You will, I know you will." Lexi said confidently.
That night, true to her word, Jade put on the One Direction CD. As she drifted off to sleep, Jade couldn't help but notice a deep feeling of peace, and love wash over her. "Maybe they are good..." was the last thing Jade thought as she fell asleep.
Much to Jade's surprise, the next morning, Jade realized she slept the entire night through, without a single nightmare.
Jade's mother walked into Jade's room, to wake her up, only to find her wide awake. "Another nightmare, sweetie? Well, at least it wasn't a screamer. Those really take their toll on you." Jade's mother said. "No, I didn't have a nightmare..." Jade whispered, still shocked by the news herself. "What? How?" Jade's mother asked, her eyes wide with shock. "Yeah, Lexi brought over a CD for me to listen to as I fall asleep. It worked. I can't believe it worked, but it did." Jade said. "What is this CD? Is it a new band?" Jade's mother asked. Jade nodded. "Does this band have a name?" Jade's mother asked. Jade nodded again. "They're called One Direction." Jade whispered.
