Hi, I'm Anya and I'm currently with my close cousin Matt. We've been like brother and sister for the past 500 years. This year is our first year of Highschool. And Highschool meant exams and finals that we have to pass. So, a couple of our(mostly Matt's) friends, created the "Squirtle Study Group". Please, don't ask why its called that. All you need to know that it consisted of Squirtle plushies and Pokemon cards. The group went over and studied materials that were on the very finals. Today was a Sunday afternoon. So, for some reason, we've all decided to meet up at this mall, the "Aventura Mall" that had recently opened to study for the very exam we had the next day.
But, our ride wasn't as smooth as it would suppose to go since a certain someone was driving. And let me just tell you, I had to argue not to let her drive for many reasons.
"Milly slow down!"
"Anya put your seatbelt on!"
"Matt you don't even have yours on!!""YOU'RE SUPPOSE TO GO LEFT NOT RIGHT!!!"
"YOU'RE ON THE WRONG STREET MILL- OH MY GOD PLEASE DON'T CUT THAT CAR OFF!"
"PRESS THE BREAKS ALREADY!!"The red mini-van made a sharp stop beside a sidewalk, sending us teens, who were currently screaming our heads off, into the seats infront of us. Black spots covered my vision as I painfully unattached myself from the leather surface of the seat of the soccer mom car.
"Please, remind me to never let you drive, ever again. How'd you even get a license!?"
The blonde haired adult Milly, who was my oldest sister, shot me a smile from the driver's side. "I have my ways. Can't you have faith in your big sister?"
I scoffed "Suree, when you're not trying to kill us." Milly reached out and patted my brown hair as I slid open the van door and pulled my raven-haired cousin out by his grey shirt. "C'mon Matt, get up. We have to meet up with the study group." I pull the dazed 15-year old out of the car before waving the car off."Shit..you weren't kidding when you said you didn't want your sister driving." Matt said as he tried his best to not to stumble to the ground. I sighed "Oh, it's worse when she's wasted. Next time, remind me to drive." I turned and fixed the blue sweater I wore "Even with my permit, I could drive much more better than that." I began walking towards the entrance of the large building in front of us. Matt jogged to catch up
"Any reason why the group wanted to study in a mall? Like a library could have been better but a mall? Seriously?" he said. I shrugged "I wouldn't know, not the best place to study for class finals. But if they aren't here yet, at least we'd have time to explore it. Honestly, this is the first time I've been to this one."
"Oh, I found this in the car. Must have been when we were coming back from Disney that one time." Matt handed me a leather bracelet with one single white angel wing on it. "Oh! I forgot about this. Thanks Matt. I think I have the other bracelet that matches with this one back home. Gonna have to look for it though." I said putting the bracelet on.
Matt pushed open the door into the mall and we both walked in. The mall wasn't as special as everyone around town said it was. The only difference this mall had was that it was much more bigger and it had more shops to buy from. It took a few minutes of walking to finally arrive to the meet up place but to our dismay, no one was even there. I inhaled slowly
"Matt you owe me 10$."
"W-wait, wait just one minute. Let me call them." Matt said as he took his phone out of his pocket and dialed a few numbers. I could tell by just his face he didn't wanna loose them bucks since well, he blew the rest of his money on other stuff*cough*games*cough*.
As Matt was on the phone, I took the time to look around. Conveniently, the meet up spot was located in a abandoned area of the mall which was comfortably silent, but it still really bothered me that it was, you know, abandoned.
First of all, why would there be an abandoned area in a mall that was open for the last few months, there has to be some stores around this corner..
I strolled down the long hallway with closed off stores that looked ready to open but weren't. From far away, I was able to see a bunch of boxes and and glass frames in front of a certain store called "Fay".
I was going to ignore it and keep on walking but in the corner of my eye, I noticed a very particular glass frame "Wait a minute..." The closer I moved to the frame, the more goosebumps I felt run up my arms. It was a poster of one of my favorite animes, Attack on Titan. And yes, this girl watched anime, Matt did too but not as often as I did. Well, I watched it during my spare time so I enjoyed it casually. But the true question was, why the hell did I feel weird in front of this poster? And why was the poster in a glass pane in the first place!?
My body suddenly shuddered as I looked to both sides, feeling multiple eyes on me. "This better not be one of those damn horror movies where the killer pops out of nowhere."
"Hey-"
I quickly turned around from the pane to look at Matt, who was making his way towards me.
"You fucking scared me Matt!!" I said as I held my hand over my chest.
"Sorry about that." He chuckled "Anyways, they got a flat tire so we'll be waiting for a bit." I nodded. Matt noticed the pane and pointed "Hey, why is that there?" I walked backwards so I was next to Matt.
"I don't know but I feel like a dumbass for feeling nervous around it."
Matt raised his eyebrow "Huh, there's some type of large scratch on it." He reached out and let his nail softly scratch the mark that was strangely there on the pane. "Well, we should go get some food while we're here, my mom sent me off as soon as Milly came and picked me up." I said as I put my hand and patted the glass pane "Peace outt." I said as I walked off.
"H-Hey wait up!!" Matt said as he followed behind me out of the corner. Not even a few seconds later, as Matt and I walked out of the (long) corridor, we heard something that made us freeze in our spots. I heard the faint sound of a crack then a loud sound of glass shattering and hitting the ground.
Instinctively, my hands flew up to my mouth in shock as Matt stayed frozen, we turned and looked at each other wide eyed.
'Oh my gosh please tell me that wasn't us...Oh my god what are you talking about Anya, that was us!!' I dreaded. I took a deep breath in as I began walking back in. "Anya what are you doing!?" Matt asked in a panic as he had no choice but to follow "Taking responsibility!" I said as I began to pick up the pace of my walking "I'm not going to get my ass kicked by a, I quote, hispanic mother Matt. You already know how she is! She'll kick my ass if she found out I didn't take responsibility for breaking things! Plus I'm not ready to pay a huge fine." Matt sighed and scratched his cheek "Well, you're right. But we have to hurry before other people check it out!!"
"Well what other people? This part is fucking abandoned. All we have to worry about are those." I said as I motioned my head towards the security cameras that sat on the roof.
"Oh."
From a bit away, I was able to see large and small pieces of glass on the ground. I ran up to what was once a pane, rolling my sleeves up "Oh god, how are we going to explain this.." I was going to start to carefully pick up large fragments of glass until Matt grabbed my hand "Hey Anya, you know that's not safe.""Then how are we gonna pick it up? There's not any brooms around to do it so we'd might as well." I took his hand off my wrist and bent down to pick up a piece.
"Huh?" He said in a questioning tone. "What?" I asked, glancing back at him.
"Where's the poster?" I frowned "What do you mean the poster's right ther- Woah what the hell." I said as I picked up the large piece of white paper that was next to my foot which we both knew was the poster "T-The image, where the fuck did it go??" I said flipping it over, thinking it was just turned the wrong way, but it was still blank. "Oh my god. Now THAT's weird." Matt said nervously laughing. I was going to respond back until I heard a completely different voice above us.
"NOW!"
I suddenly felt a heavy force crash into my back and OH GOD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME I DIDN'T JUST BELLY FLOP ONTO GLASS, I WAS PRACTICALLY ALREADY KNEELING IN IT!! I moved my arms in front of my face just in time to get my arms stabbed by multiple shards "AHH!" I yelled in pain as the body on top of me held my neck down, forcing my arms deeper onto the ground . From a distance I heard Matt give out a shocked gasp since I was sure he had time to back away from our attackers "Y-Y-YOU GUYS!? W-WAIT H-HOW!? W-WAIT WHAT!?"
Well, at this moment, you may have thought I was feeling helpless, afraid, and in immense pain. Oh honey, let me just tell you guys. I was on a level of anger after I realized what had just happened. I ignored the pain searing into my arm and flipped to the side, leaning forward and pushing my foot with my body, making me able to make the attacker lose balance and fall back, giving me a leverage against them. I mentally thanked those Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes my mom made me take a few years back. After the stranger hit the ground and let out a large grunt, I quickly got onto their waist and straddled them before pulling my arm back, ready to punch the person's lights out. That was until my light brown eyes met emerald green, it took me a few seconds, realizing who it was, my mouth went agape.
"O-oh shit.."
