(Maddie's POV)

I'm so pumped! I am ready to go and kill this trio. I also have got one of Abby's 'surprise' solos, but I've learned this one before. It's called Frozen Heart, and it's kind of spinoff on Frozen and Let it Go.

We do our power walk to the dressing room with the ALDC sign on it. I am confident about my trio and my duet. Our trio never loses and my solo should win. We run our dances through one by one over and over again. Abby is screaming at us about the group dance saying something about only having three days but still having to win. Like always. She usually doesn't care about my solos because she knows that I can win easily, so I ran it myself. I am fully confident. This solo is a piece of cake, besides, I have learnt it in more than three days.

Kendall, Chloe and I walk to the stage in our sparkly costumes.

Our matching costumes sparkle in the stage lights as we strut out and assemble in our starting pose. For the first time we are dancing to a popular song, we are dancing to Rude. I hit all of the accents, hit every turn, get super high on my leaps. My heart leaped with glee as I saw Chloe nail her front aerial out of the corner of my eye. We were going to win for sure. We hit our ending pose looking fierce as always. And we strut out.

Then came the shocker. Guess who was standing in the wings.

Gino.

And the thing is, he was as shocked as I was.

My mind was racing. What do you do when you meet a friend after a long time? Give hima fist bump? A handshake? A hug? No, I can't hug him, he's a boy. I decided with the most easiest thing

"'Sup?"

Great, Maddie, just great. Now he thinks you're a totally sluggish loser too.

"Your trio was great", he smiled his warm smile, "I have a duet, with Alyssa"

He nodded in her direction. I saw a beautiful girl, nervously waiting in the wings.

I felt a pang in my stomach which I had never felt before. What was it?

She was skinnier than I was, taller, and much prettier.

I knew what this feeling was. This was jealousy. I was struck over with jealousy.

"G-good luck", I stammered, not even having the grace to look him in the eye, as he walked upstage.

His duet was good. It was called Constellations, and it was lyrical, unlike our trio, which was jazz. Lyrical always wins at competitions.

Gino made no mistakes. Alyssa made quite a few.

He walked off stage. I didn't even want to meet his eyes. I quickly ran back to the dressing room to change into my solo costume, which was next. I was out in 20 minutes, walking back to the stage. I went to the left wings and there, waiting for me, was him.

"Hey", he said softly, grabbing my hand, "I know you have a solo coming up. Don't worry, you'll do great."

I broke down.

Tears started streaming down my face. Tears that came for no reason at all. I didnt want to do my solo anymore. I just wanted....

Him.

Gino gently pulled me to a secluded place in the wings and hugged me. I was pretty sure he had no idea why I was crying but he stroked my hair and whispered, "It'll be okay, Madds"

I pulled my face away.

Now was the time.

I couldn't hold it back any longer.

"Gino..

I love you"
