It was early one morning on the planet named Hydro the orange sky was bright from the morning sun and not a cloud could be seen for miles in the atmosphere. Walking down the road in the town where he had grown up was a young man around 23 years old. His eyes bright blue, which complemented his pitch black hair well, looked around at his surroundings. To his left was a children's play park to which he let out a loud sigh. As a child he used to play there with his two best friends but since growing older and going to high school they had all grown apart. Leto hadn't spoken to either of the girls who he had previously been really close with as a child and he found it a shame, yet he would never admit that.

Leto walked further down the road until he reached his house which he shared with his Mother. His Mother, Rosa Hawk, had been a famous singer until several years ago when her career ended. She was glad that now she didn't have to work as much she could get other important things done and still live comfortably. Leto got his key from his pocket and went to open the door but being so deep in thought earlier he had forgotten that he could teleport instead of using the door. Being born with the Gene gave him advantages like that along with being able to use the power of darkness and having a genuinely higher intelligence.

Inside the house Leto appeared in the kitchen where Rosa was making some breakfast. She looked to her son and smiled, "Good morning Leto, I didn't realise you had gone out"

"We needed more milk" Leto told her but looked down at his hand and as he wasn't carrying anything it was obvious he was lying.

Rosa stayed smiling and folded her arms and asked, "What was the real reason you went out?"

Leto looked away and broke the eye contact his mother had made with him, "I just needed to clear my head"

"You're still being troubled by it aren't you?" Rosa sighed sadly.

He never replied to this although Rosa was completely right, ever since his childhood friend Ashley River had joined forces with Josh Flint, leader of the Abbey, he knew that this was bad. Ashley was a pretty girl the same age as Leto but with red hair and light green eyes, he had found her attractive but they hadn't ever established a proper relationship although they did have a very close bond. The reason this had been trouble the young man for a while was the fact Ashley had been such a lovely girl and he knew Josh wasn't a great guy, this just worried him for the girls safety. Ashley also being born with the Gene meant she had similar powers to Leto like teleporting but she held the power of Light instead.

Looking away from her son Rosa went back to tending the cooked breakfast that she had been in the process of cooking the pair. As she moved the bacon around the pan she said quietly, barely being able to be heard over the sizzling, "I know you're worried Leto but there's nothing anyone can do for Ashley"

Leto looked at his mother and knew that to be right, so he changed the subject, "Have you got any plans for today?"

Realising Leto no longer wanted to talk about Ashley, Rosa took up the new line of conversation, "I've got to go out shopping at some point, how about you?"

"I'm not sure yet" he replied.

The conversation came to stop where neither knew what to say to one another anymore. Rosa dished up their breakfast and still remaining in silence the two sat at their table in the kitchen to eat their food.

After breakfast Leto did the washing up to save his mother doing it as she had cooked him breakfast. Rosa went upstairs and got changed out of her pajamas and into some clothes which she could go to the shops in. Coming back downstairs she called out to Leto, "I'll see you later I'm just going to go out shopping"

"See you later" he called back. After hearing the front door slam shut he finished doing the dishes and dried his hands. Looking down at himself he nodded at his appearance, he was wearing jeans, a white shirt and a black jacket and some trainers. It wasn't his best look he could admit that but it wasn't awful so at least he could go outside and not be stared at or judged.
