Children in the room
Laughter escapes their lips
Two of them
Are closer than the eye can see
These are the girls
The little toddlers
Who will spend their lives with each other
Growing up and maturing
These are the two
Who will never leave the other's side
At age six, they make a promise
"Promise, that no matter what
You will always be my best friend?"
The younger of them asks
She holds out her small pinky
The older looks into her eyes and says
"Always".
She grasps her friends pinky with her own
And together, they are held by love
The promise is fulfilled by friendship
At age ten
They spend every weekend together
Obsessing over this and that
The at night, they lay in bed
And they fantasize further into their life
At age twelve, the younger of the two begins middle school
The two are torn away
They try to stay in touch
But it never seems to work
Then comes one weekend
When both have entered adolecense
They realize they've missed one another
They spend every waking minute side by side
And at the end of the visit the older friend looks to the younger and says:
"Best friends forever?"
The younger flashes a smile and replies "Always".
