Anita stood there relaxed staring back at jalila, her unclad hair revealed she must have came in a hurry, nothing other than that depicted worry or frustration. She seemed perfectly calm.

But... But... She killed, no, we killed a man!

Reality was finally dawning on jalila, she'd just taken a life. She stared at the corpse that laid perfectly still in its pool of blood, then back at Anita's calm face. She looked so calm as though she'd done nothing wrong. Once again Jalila looked at her blood stained hands. They held a strange feeling.
She stared at the corpse of lieutenant gana again and back to Anita in a swoop all in a pregnant silence that harbored unspoken words.

Today was indeed a day observed only once in ten lifetimes  when you live in such a camp of misery, but today it rained peace and quiet. There ameera sat looking to the skies watching as the sun sinks beyond the horizon. It looks beautiful, so beautiful it reminded her of sunsets on the beaches of Maldives. She remembered how magnificent the sunsets were on those beaches, dim colorful rays changing hues of the skie, so beautiful she believe that was nature showing off its best bouyancy. It is always a spectacular sight, indeed one of the most beautiful sunset in the world.

The night came in full gear, Ameera was still seated in the open enjoying the cold feel of the wind against the bare skin of her soft fulani face. She wanted to sit there till late at night but her adventure was short lived, terminated by incessant howling and perching of mosquitoes and other insects.

Ameera couldn't take it anymore, quickly she ran to the boxed shackle they call their abode. Also it was just another empty space surrounded by walls, she has lived there for quite a while now. Ameera should have gotten used to the empty space and the brick walls but no, the place always felt shallow, She knew not a face here prior to her abduction. She had nobody here. Ameera wasn't ungrateful for having Jalila and bintu around but still the place felt nothing like home. Events of the previous months had completely restructured her life.

Ameera took a stone, carefully engraved one more mark on the northern wall in their room then took a step back. For a minute she stood there intently staring at the wall while fidgeting with her fingers, by her calculations today is her ninetieth day inscribing little marks on the wall which meant she has been in captivity for three months.

Three months! She exclaimed. Ameera was shocked at how long it has been. She wondered if her parents still cared for her, if they knew she was still alive. Ameera reminisced about her mom, oh how caring she was, her regular breakfast in bed, she remembered her mother's warm hug. Her dad, those moments she sat on the front porch by 5pm just to welcome him home —oh how she misses him, he truly was her hero.

At the thought of her parents, a sad smile curled its way to ameera's lips those were indeed happy times then reality struck, hitting her like a strong night wave crashing against a lonely fishing both. Ameera froze, her gloomy face staring downwards sunk into her slumped shoulders.

What if her parents thought she had died, maybe more dead than her traveling companion Mal Iro, what if they'd forgotten about her, what if they had given to faith and erased her from existence. The what ifs were too much to think through. She raised her face to the wall one more time, her eyes reassuring her of what her mind dreaded. It was indeed ninety days, this was indeed her reality.

Ameera thought of her cousin, she might possibly be in the sanctuary of her home watching tv and enjoying the Air condition. She might even be pregnant for all ameera knows while she was here in this God forsaken place, used and abused daily. This brought tears to ameera's eyes, she didn't know if to blame her cousin for getting married or her mom for sending her to attend. Ameera felt lost, all hope was gone, there wasn't any light in this tunnel she found herself, if at all the tunnel had an end. She felt cheated but there was nothing she could do. Would there ever be a day when she gets to leave this hell hole, only God knows. Ameera slumped against the wall, head over heels and her tears became a full blown cry.
