The Tour

We started at the Box, which was closed at the moment - double doors of metal lying flat on the ground, covered in white paint, faded and cracked.
Newt pointed down at the doors. " This here's the Box. Once a month, we get a Greenie like you, never fails. Once a week, we get supplies, clothes and some food. If you need anything, just throw a piece of paper with what you want on it and it will show up the next time the Box comes up."
I nodded, my whole body itching with the desire to ask questions.
" We don't know anything about our pasts. Where we came from, how we got here, who's in charge of all these. Those bloody creators who sent us here told us nothin'. We got all the electricity we need, grow and raise most of our food, get clothes and such."
I followed Newt and he held up his finger as he counted off the next four words.
" Gardens, Blood House, Homestead, Deadhead. Ya got that? "
I shook my head, confused. He pointed to the north-east corner, where the fields and fruit trees were located.
" Gardens - where we grow the crops. Water's pumped in through pipes in the ground - always has been, otherwise we'd have starved to death a bloody long time ago. Never rains here. Never." Then he pointed at the pitiful living quarters. " Homestead - the place is twice as big than the first of us got here because we keep addin' to it when they send us wood and klunk. Ain't pretty, but it works. That's also where the Med-Jacks work. " Newt pointed to the south-west corner, the forest area fronted with several sickly trees and benches." Call that the Deadheads. Graveyard's back in that corner, in the thicker woods. Ain't much else. You can go there to sit  and rest, hang out, whatever." He cleared his throat, as if wanting to change subjects. "You'll spend the next few days working one day apiece for our different job Keepers- until we know what you're best at. Slopper, Bricknick, Bagger, Track-hoe- something'll stick, always does. Come on, love. " Newt walked toward the South Door, located between what he'd called the Deadheads and the Blood House. I followed after him.
Why do they need a graveyard in a place full of teenagers?
I turned my attention to the pens in the Blood House area.
Several cows nibbled and chewed at a trough full of greenish hay. Pigs lounged in a muddy pit, an occasionally flickering tail the only sigh they were alive. Another pen held sheep, and there were chicken coops and turkey cages as well. Workers bustled about the area, looking as if they'd spent their whole lives on a farm. Some of them lifted their heads and looked in our direction.
Newt pointed to the large barn in the back corner, its red paint long faded to a dull rust color.
" There's where the Slicers work. Nasty stuff. If ya like blood, you can be a Slicer."
Blood? Being a Slicer? I don't think so. I thought to myself.
The Tour went on for a while and when it ends, the sun was already setting. The Runners started to enter back from the Maze and entered the Map Room. From what Newt told me that's where they map out the Maze.
I walked around the Glade until a boy with jet black straight hair came in my direction.
" You must be the new girl, Nikie." he stopped right in front of me. Those black eyes stared at me with wonder.
He looked familiar. I thought. Sadly I can't remember where I have seen him before.
" Yes... And you are? I questioned.
" I'm Thomas. By the way, there will be a celebration for you!" he walked to the opposite direction and I followed.
" For me? " I asked.
" Yes, because you are the new Greenie. Oh this is Teresa. Before you came, she was the Newbie." he pointed to the girl with dark straight chocolate hair, who marched towards us.
" Hi, I'm Nikie." I tried to make the kindest smile I had since I arrived.
"Nice to meet you." the girl smiled with those bright brown eyes.
" I will leave you girls alone." Thomas stated before walking away.
" So Tessa, can you tell me something about Newt?" I know it's weird to ask about someone you just met, but I'm too curious to let it go. I asked Teresa the question since she's the only girl besides me.
" Haha... you like him, don't you?" she giggled at me.
" I just want to know more about him. " it's true, I know almost nothing about the boy, only that he's Second in Command!
" I see. Well... he's Second in Command, he's kind, strong, smart and he follows all the rules... " there are only three rules in the Glade.
Rule Number One - Everyone does their part
Number Two - Never harm another Glader
Last but not least - Never go beyond the walls unless you are a Runner
I can already tell that I will have a problem with the second one, especially if a Glader like Gally decided to go on my nerves.
After some small talks with Teresa, I walked around the Glade to find Newt. On my way, I found a kid around 12 or 13 years old with curly chestnut hair sprinted to greet me.
" Hi there, Newbie." the adorable boy said cheerfully.
" Who might you be?" I looked down at him. The boy's a little fat cutie, he's so gorgeous that makes me want to squeeze his cheeks.
" I'm Chuck. I'll be your guide tonight." the boy replied.
" Oh, ok. Nice to meet you then." I said.
