Severus hurried into the now ruined house, feeling his eyes start to burn. He begins to knock viciously, as if expecting an answer like "Come in!", or light footsteps starting at toward the door. There wasn't one. The shadowy man stood in silence for a moment, then let himself in. There was silence. Loud, soul sucking silence.Snape rushed up the squeaky, blue carpeted stairs. He stops dead in his tracks, looking at the stone cold, dead face of his arch nemesis. Knowing what he was about to see next, he felt hot streaks of tears fall from his burning, obsidian black eyes. Sure enough, aburn red hair, falling gracefully from the remainder of the steps came into view. Snape's breath hitched as he pushed the white oak door all the way open. There she was.
The love of his life.
The ginger haired, deep green eyed, love of his life.
Lily Evans. (lily potter..)
Next to her was a small, brunette boy, the same green eyes as his mother. He was crying, sobbing, screaming. The tears now coming hot down Snape's face, he held Lily close to him, sobbing along side the small baby inside of his crib.
He stayed like this for hours on end, sobbing into her ginger hair. Wishing he could've done something different, more effective, something to make sure of her survival. But he didn't. Severus Snape remained useless as he had been his whole life.
Suddenly, a burst of motivation to find something, ran through his blood, his gut. Snape began to rummage everything in the home, throwing anything and everything in his path, careful not to hit Lily, James, or Harry.
Finally he found, or rather felt what he was looking for. A small, rusty, silver key. There was a ruby on the top that resembled a golden snitch. Severus immediately began searching for key holes in the walls, closets, dressers, and finally found a large, birch wood desk. Snape practically slammed the key into the hole, turned it with such force, that he was lucky it didn't snap completely. He pulled open the small drawer, revealing a piece of parchment, with the edges torn off. It read:
Dear Severus,
He's coming. James tries to calm me down every day, tries to
reassure me that everything is going to be alright, but he's lying.
He knows it's not going to be okay. We've been moving around
non-stop, trying to protect ourselves and Harry, but it's going
to be of no avail. It's almost as if I can feel him getting closer,
like I can feel him growing stronger. (if that's even possible.)
I feel so much sorrow for overreacting over a small insult,
and I understand that it slipped out. I forgive you completely.
However, I will not mend boundaries with you, as I am so close
to my death. Please, Severus, take care of my Harry.
Yours truly,
Lily.
